Man United OFFICIALLY release statement CONFIRMING £38M summer deal

Manchester United have confirmed the permanent transfer of striker Rasmus Hojlund to Italian side Napoli in a deal reported to be worth £38 million, bringing an end to the Danish international’s three-year spell at Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old leaves United after spending the 2025-26 season on loan at Napoli, where he rediscovered the form that initially prompted the Premier League club to sign him from Atalanta in the summer of 2023.

Napoli’s obligation to buy was activated following the club’s qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League, paving the way for the move to become permanent.

Manchester United confirmed the transfer on Wednesday, issuing a brief statement wishing the forward well for the future after he made 95 appearances and scored 26 goals for the club across all competitions.

Hojlund arrived at Old Trafford amid considerable expectations after United agreed a deal worth around £72 million with Atalanta. While he showed flashes of promise during his debut campaign, including helping the club win the FA Cup in 2024, he struggled to consistently deliver in the Premier League and eventually fell out of favour as United reshaped their attacking options.

A return to Serie A proved beneficial for both player and club. During his season in Naples, Hojlund scored 16 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions, helping Napoli secure the Supercoppa Italiana and finish second in the league.

His performances convinced the Italian side to make the move permanent and continue building their attack around the Denmark international.

The transfer represents a significant financial loss compared with Manchester United‘s original investment, with the reported £38 million fee falling well short of the amount paid to Atalanta three years ago.

Nevertheless, the sale provides the club with additional flexibility as it seeks to reshape its squad during the summer transfer window.

For Hojlund, the move offers stability and the opportunity to continue his resurgence in familiar surroundings after previously impressing in Italian football. Napoli, meanwhile, secure a striker entering the prime years of his career as they prepare for another campaign in both Serie A and the Champions League.
