Manchester United all set to win a race for £50 million rated Cagliari star Barella

Reports have claimed Manchester United are keen to sign £50 million rated Cagliari star Nicolo Barella.

The 21-year-old Italy international, who is under contract at the Serie A side until 2022, has been linked with Chelsea in recent days as Maurizio Sarri seeks a replacement for Cesc Fabregas.

Fabregas is heading to Monaco and Sarri has already admitted that he may need a signing this month, as the Spaniard will leave him with only five midfielders.

And Barella, who is regarded as an outstanding talent, has become a top transfer target after another impressive start to the new season, in which his performances has attracted interest from a whole host of big clubs.

But according to reports on the Sky Sports website, United are poised to beat the Blues to the £50m signature of the Italian star Barella, who has admitted that he is happy at the Italian club.

However, Cagliari are willing to cash in this coming summer with interest growing on a weekly basis.

Here is what we think.

Both United and Chelsea are two of the richest clubs in world football and Cagliari know they have an opportunity on their hands to push for more than what Barella is currently worth right now.

The lad clearly has potential and will obviously become a top player, but right now both sides are not in desperate need of another midfielder and should focus on the areas of the pitch which need improvement.

United have issues at the back and need to splash the cash on a big named defender rather than on a midfielder that still has alot to prove in the game, so they should use the money to land targets like Kalidou Koulibaly or Harry Maguire.
