Destination Manchester United? as German world cup winner Hummels leaving Bayern Munich this summer
The summer arrivals of Lucas Hernandez and Benjamin Pavard at Bayern Munich mean Mats Hummels could leave this summer, with Manchester United interested in a possible transfer deal
The German defender has been one of the best centre-halves in world football over the seasons and has been on the radar of some of the Premier Leagues biggest clubs.
But with United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer desperate to add a world class defender to his back-line in the January transfer window, the Red Devils will be given a massive boost to the lasts reports which have emerged out of Germany.
Sport have claimed Hummels could be sold in the January transfer window with the defender now considering his future with the lack of game time under boss Nico Kovac.
Since Kovac has taken the reins at the Bavarian club, his rotation policy has seen Hummels on the bench and the player is beginning to think he will become the most prominent victim of the change of coach and is becoming very frustrated at the clear lack of respect shown by Kovac.
And with the imminent arrivals of both Pavard and Hernandez in the summer, means his game time will become even more limited.
Solskjaer inherited a team from Jose Mourinho that needs a whole lot of money spent on new faces and he clearly needs to spend money to improve a squad that is lacking world class players.
And the fact he has to rely on Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof shows the clear lack of quality he clearly has at the back.
But spending £65 million on Hummels may be a bit too much, as the United board do not want to spend so much money on a player that is now coming towards the back-end of his professional playing career.
So if Hummels leaves Bayern in the summer transfer window, it is much more likely he will head to Chelsea or La Liga, as right now the board do not want to spend so much money on a player that is no longer top of his game.
United need someone liked Toby Alderweireld, Harry Maguire of Kalidou Koulibaly, who are all physically the right type of players to come in and make an immediate impact on the United back-line.
