Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news and gossip that we think you guys may have missed…

It has again been claimed in the media that Manchester United target Ben Chilwell is no longer wanted or needed at Chelsea, and reporter Iomie Stanley has come out and claimed that the Blues will look to get a deal done for the defender in the January transfer window.

He told icfootballnews: ‘The 27-year-old left-back, once a key figure in Chelsea’s defense, may be deemed surplus to requirements under the potential leadership of boss Enzo Maresca.

‘Enzo Maresca has shown a preference for a system that values ball retention and attacking full-backs with strong technical skills. His tactical approach relies on defenders who can seamlessly transition into midfield during build-up play. While Ben Chilwell has the attacking prowess and speed to bomb forward, his recent form at Chelsea has been inconsistent, particularly in terms of his defensive positioning and ball distribution.

‘Chilwell’s injury record hasn’t helped his cause, either. After a lengthy spell on the sidelines last season, the England international has struggled to recapture his best form. Maresca has opted for players better suited to his tactical vision, and that is why they have been so impressive during the opening weeks of the season.

‘Chelsea have shown a willingness to offload players for the right price as part of their squad overhaul under Todd Boehly. A sale of Chilwell in the January window could provide an opportunity for the club to recoup funds and reinvest in other areas of the squad.

‘Several Premier League clubs, as well as teams across Europe, could be interested in Chilwell, who remains a high-quality full-back when fully fit.

‘With Chilwell’s future at CHELSEA now uncertain, the January transfer window may be a pivotal moment in his career. it wouldn’t be surprising to see Chilwell leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular game time and a fresh start elsewhere.’

‘And there will be plenty of clubs that could be interested in a potential deal for the defender, including Manchester United.’

TEN HAG SACK CLAIM –

Pundit Joe Cole has opened up and claimed that Manchester United will get rid of Erik Ten Hag by Christmas – even if the Dutchman managed to pick up a few decent results in the coming weeks.

Erik Ten Hag came to Old Trafford as one of the best managers in the game – but he has been unable to handle the pressures of managing a club like Man United and has struggled to get the results needed.

That has led to alot of reports that he is only a few games away from getting the sack – although the Manchester United board are more likely to keep hold of the Dutchman for the next couple of games as they decide on what they want to do with the Dutchman.

But now Cole has opened up and claimed that Manchester United will get rid of Erik Ten Hag by Christmas: ‘It’s a really tough part of our job because you get asked about something like this but at the end of the day it’s Erik ten Hag’s livelihood,’ Cole said on TNT Sports.

‘For the last 18 months, he’s been on the ropes so many times and he’s pulled a result out.

‘They can go and get results tonight and at the weekend but I think ultimately the rhythm is not quite there and there’s just not getting where they need to be with Erik.

‘I’ll be surprised if he’s still in the job at Christmas and it’s never a good part of my job to say things like that but that’s how it looks.’

Ten Hag is now used to all the speculation surrounding his future – he is constantly being talked about in the media – but that United board are patient.

They have him a new contract at the end of last season, they have backed him in the transfer windows, he may have had a bad start to the new season but there is plenty of time to turn things around.

If Manchester United sack him by Christmas it could be a mistake.

BRANTHWAITE CLAIM MADE –

Sean Dyche admitted he is not surprised to see Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite continually linked with rival Premier League clubs, with reports that Manchester United are still interested in a deal for the star.

Branthwaite emerged as a top target for Manchester United this summer after an impressive Premier League campaign which almost saw the centre-back make England’s final 26-man squad for Euro 2024.

And Dyche insisted that Branthwaite remains happy at the club but is not surprised that the likes of Man United are still interested in a potential deal – he said: ‘I think I said in the summer that any player, it’s a worldwide market now, it’s not just about one player,’ he said at a press conference on Thursday.

‘The way the game changed, certainly in Europe, the transfer situation has opened up. It’s not a surprise good players are linked with other clubs. I said in the summer he’ll be staying here and he is so that’s good.’

Asked about how the pending takeover could affect the sale of Branthwaite, Dyche replied: ‘The club has a situation it is still looking upon. If new ownership goes through, that might change things financially but we don’t know that yet. We’ll just have to wait and see.

‘I didn’t really speak to him about it [interest from United in the summer], he’s still here. I’m not going to sit there and chat endlessly about stories in the paper which 99 per cent are not true so there’s no point.

‘He seems fine other than being injured, which has been a blow to him, he’s been fine.’

Right now, Manchester United should not really be worrying about adding the squad as they need results – Erik Ten Hag may not even be in charge by the next transfer window to make a move for Branthwaite.
