Man United will have to pay £82 million to sign brilliant Portuguese star

Where will Neves go?

Bruno Lage has warned Man United they won’t sign Ruben Neves on the cheap this summer, amid reports that Erik Ten Hag wants him at the club in the transfer window

United were keen on signing Neves last summer but failed to get a transfer deal done as they did not want to pay the asking price that Wolves have placed on the head of Neves.

Neves still has two years remaining on his contract at Wolves, and talkSPORT understand the club would want at least £50 million to let their star man go, which is considerably higher than what United are prepared to pay.

SunSport exclusively revealed potential new United boss Erik ten Hag plans to make signing the 25-year-old playmaker a priority this summer if he ends up in the Old Trafford hotseat.

The Red Devils might have to DOUBLE Wolves’ previous transfer record of £41million, which Liverpool paid for Diogo Jota in September 2020, to get their man.

And according to the reports, Lage believes Wolves can get more out of the Portugal star than United and wants to build his team around the much-admired midfielder.

When asked about Neves’ situation heading into the January transfer window, manager Lage claimed that Neves was happy at the club, he said: “Ruben feels this is his second home – and happiness comes with that.

“That’s good, but it’s another thing to convince him to stay. It’s not about a contract or money. It’s about creating a big team that fights for different things.

“Ruben is in that place where he needs a different challenge. And we also want a different challenge for the club.”

Wolves are having a brilliant season and can be proud of what they achieved, but just like Jota, Neves is a player that needs to make that step next step in his career and join a bigger club

Man United may not be the biggest anymore – or the club that win everything – but they have a world class manager coming in the summer and a few world class players.

And he could be a fantastic signing
