Man United Tuesday! Alba move to be made, defender wanted, Rooney backs Mourinho and Howe ready for move
Here is a roundup of all today’s Manchester United headlines.
Danny Murphy has claimed Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe could be the man to replace Jose Mourinho at Manchester United.
Despite a very impressive 3-2 win over Newcastle at the weekend, there is a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Mourinho at Old Trafford with rumours claiming he is living on borrowed time and if just a few results away from being sacked by the club.
And that has led to speculation former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger and former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane could replace the special one, with the latter reportedly keen to manage in the Premier League after such a successful spell at the Bernabeu.
But Murphy has claimed Howe, who has guided his Bournemouth side to sixth in the Premier League, has proven he is good enough to take one of the top jobs in England.
He told talkSPORT on Monday: “I would be absolutely amazed if Eddie Howe isn’t at one of the big clubs in the next few years.
“He’s a proven Premier League manager and he’s as talented as anyone out there.
“Someone’s got to take a risk, but I think he has proven for five years in the Premier League that he has what it take.”
And Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has backed Jose Mourinho to succeed at Old Trafford.
There is mounting pressure on the head of Mourinho after a poor start to the new season and there is mounting speculation that he will get the sack and be replaced by former Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane, who is keen on a move to the Premier League after taking some time out after leaving the Spanish Champions.
But former boss Moyes has claimed the 3-2 victory over Newcastle at the weekend could be the turning point for the special one and has backed the former Chelsea boss to go on and succeed at Old Trafford.
He told Sky Sports:”The big thing is that Jose has got himself a fantastic result at the weekend,” said Moyes, speaking at a Legends of Football event. “It doesn’t matter how you win but he did it in good style, beating Newcastle.
“I think that could settle things down a little bit. It takes time for all managers at Manchester United.
“Jose has been given time and I’m sure given more time – he’s a winner and I’m sure he will go on to prove that.”
Meanwhile, United legend Wayne Rooney has claimed Mourinho has become ‘an easy target’ after the poor start to the new season.
United are already seven points behind Manchester City in the Premier League and have been knocked out of the Carabao Cup after a shock loss to Derby, and Mourinho has been targeted by the media for his tactics, man management and public outbursts on some of his top players.
But Rooney has claimed Mourinho has become an easy target, telling Sky Sports: “It’s tough [at United], it has been a tough situation,” Rooney told The Telegraph, after scoring both goals for DC United in a 2-1 win over Chicago Fire on Sunday.
“The players, the manager, it has been a tough start to the season.
“I know Jose is getting a load of stick but I said a few weeks ago, the players have to stand up.
“They have to be counted and they have to be better. The manager can do so much but then it is down to the players on the pitch to produce and probably collectively.
“It [the poor run of form] is a bit of everything coming together but Jose is an easy target. Some of the players have to be better.”
Meanwhile, Reports have claimed Manchester United are ready to offer £57 million to sign up Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar this coming January.
It is now secret United boss Jose Mourinho is seeking to bolster his back-line in the next few months, as Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Eric Bailly have simply not been good enough at times for the Red Devils.
And all indications suggested Mourinho was most keen to bring in Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld for £44 million, with reports the Belgian ace is ready to pack his bags and leave the club after falling down the pecking order.
But the MEN website has has claimed Mourinho has requested the United hierarchy to spend £57 million and sign Milan star Skriniar, who has been putting in some impressive performances for the Italians.
However, United are now willing to back the special one, as according to the reports, ‘Mourinho is clearly losing strength in the eyes of the Man United leadership’, and the club’s chiefs have no plan to build the future around the Portuguese coach.
Skriniar is now regarded as one of the finest young defenders in Europe and played every single minute for Milan last season, as he helped the club get back into the Champions League.
It is believed they want a fee closer to the £70 million mark, which is a lot of money for a young, talented defender.
And finally, There has been some shock reports which claimed Manchester United are lining up a move for Barcelona star Jordi Alba, after not being offered a new contract.
The 29-year old Spanish superstar has developed into one of the biggest left-backs in world football after his move to the Nou Camp and is keen to start talks over a new contract, as he has no intention of leaving the club.
But reports in the TalkSport website has reported Alba has not been offered a new contract yet and he is not happy and about his current situation at the club, especially since his current contract expires in just 18 months time.
And that has reportedly alerted United boss Jose Mourinho to a possible summer transfer deal, as the special one is a huge fan of Alba and would love to add him to the squad as he does not trust Luke Shaw 100 per cent, despite the fact the Englishman has been impressive at the start of the new season.
