Muhren urges Mourinho to sign De Jong and De Light for Manchester United this January

Former Ajax star Arnold Muhren has urged Manchester United to sign Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong in the January transfer window.

It is no secret boss Jose Mourinho was desperate to add a defender or two during the transfer window, with reports claiming that the hierarchy would not back the special one as they believed that the back-line was good enough.

But with speculation on the future of the special one, and the fact that United have conceded more than half of what they did in the whole Premier League season last year, it has ben reported in the media that United will now back Mourinho in the winter transfer window.

And the Ajax duo have both been linked with moves to the Premier League in recent months, with De Light one of the most talented young defenders in world football, and De Jong one of the most exciting attackers in Europe right now.

Now former Ajax star Muhren says his countrymen would be perfect additions to Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United squad.

“There are two [Dutch] players who are good enough – Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt,” he told Omnisport.

“They can play for Man United without any problems.”

Would these two players improve the United squad? Here is what we think.

There is no doubt that United have some of the best young attacking players in world football and can, on their day, be one of the most devastating and dominating sides in Europe.

But despite De Light being as good as he is and De Jong being a real talent, the fact is Mourinho needs to bring in some world class players to seriously be able to challenge Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea for the Premier League title.

The Red Devils are one of the biggest club sin world football and are at that stage where they need to spend big money to even compete with their rivals, so Muhren is wrong as the highly-rated duo would not be the perfect additions to the squad, not right now.
