Worth the money? Will Werner be a good buy for Manchester United after Nagelsmann announces they can stop him leaving

RB Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann admits there is nothing more he can do to try and convince Timo Werner to stay, with Manchester United keen, but is he worth it?

United made the huge mistake during the summer transfer window and let Romelu Lukaku leave the club without going out and spending some serious money to try and bring in a replacement for the Belgian powerhouse.

However, despite all the speculation and rumours suggesting that United were keen to nail down a move for Werner during the January window, the Red Devils could nowt manage to secure a deal for the young German, and he decided to stay put for now.

But German striker Werner, who is rated as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, has recently indicated his desire to leave the Bundesliga, opening the door for teams like Manchester United to swoop in and try to get a deal done.

Now amid the transfer speculation, boss Nagelsmann has come out and revealed that there is nothing else he can do to convince the 29-goal hitman to stay during the summer transfer window.

Nagelsmann said: “There is nothing we can do about it. He knows what he has in Leipzig and also what he has with me.

“I show him that — he gets many chances to develop himself.

“I don’t know if it will help him that much if I tell him every day.

“A player has to feel that he can get better. If he doesn’t feel that, it wouldn’t do any good if I kept on telling him to stay here.

He would offer the club something different up top and also bring in that factor that United need and it will also mean that the Red Devils will have a striker that likes to score goals at the highest level on a weekly basis.

So Solskjaer may have missed out on his targets during the January window, but the summer should be a totally different story and a number of signings should arrive at the club.

Werner will cost well in excess of £50 million but his record is proven and he is a wonderful young striker.
