Here is a roundup of the top Manchester United news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you guys could have missed today…
Manchester United new boss Ruben Amorim is very interested in a potential January swoop for Sporting CP defender Ousmane Diomande, sources have claimed.
he Old Trafford hierarchy unanimously decided to sack Erik ten Hag having decided enough was enough after Sunday’s late loss at West Ham continued their poor start to his third season in charge.
Manchester United immediately set their sights on highly-rated coach Amorim, and he will take charge of United on November 11 once he has fulfilled his obligations at his current club.
United have paid around £10.6m to appoint the former midfielder, which included extra payments to release him from his 30-day notice period. His first game in charge will be against Ipswich on November 24, live on Sky Sports.
What has happened?
It has been claimed on the Goal Website that Amorim is keen to improve his defence at Man United and is keen on signing the impressive Diomande, who has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for months.
That has led to some rumours in the media which have claimed that Manchester United tried to get a transfer deal done for Diomande in the last few days of the last January window, but a €35million (£30m) bid rejected.
Diomande, who has an 700m release clause, quickly became a regular in the Sporting defence following his arrival at the start of the year, making his European debut against the Gunners in the Europa League.
Would Diomande Be A Goo United Signed?
Reporter Iomie Stanley told icfootballnews: ‘Diomande has been very impressive this season and it would be interesting to see if he could handle the pressure of playing for one of the big clubs in the Premier League.
‘And the fact that he would add depth to the squad for not a lot of money, it could be a great buy from that Man United board and could be a player that adds some more quality to that Blues squad.
‘Many Manchester United fans would like to see a striker make the move to the club in the coming window – but Diomande would still be a good signing at the end of the season’
GYOKERES ON THE MOVE?
Viktor Gyokeres may be on the transfer market for Manchester United in the January window, after the latest reports in the media have claimed that he is now ready to quit Sporting Lisbon after the departure of Ruben Amorim.
The Swede, who scored 29 goals in his maiden season, has already notched up 11 in just eight games so far this campaign and there has been alot of speculation in the media that he is one player that clubs may look to sign in the January transfer window.
Gyokeres now heading for exit after Amorim departure?
Gyokeres is one of a number of Sporting CP players who could leave the Portuguese club in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s departure, with Arsenal, Chelsea and United likely to chase the former Coventry striker once again.
O Jogo reports that Gyokeres’ is “dissatisfied” with the decision of the head coach to depart for Manchester United, as the Portuguese boss was one of the main reasons that he stayed in the summer window.
Gyokeres Only at Sporting because of Amorim
Amorim’s agent Hasan Cetinkaya revealed in the summer that Gyokeres was only at Sporting because of Amorim, Cetinkaya admitted in an interview with A Bola: “It will be more difficult for Viktor to stay if Ruben Amorim leaves Sporting because Viktor came precisely because of Ruben.
“The day we met, I said to Ruben: ‘Here’s my boy, he came to Sporting because of you.’”
He further added: “There were eight clubs very interested in Viktor last summer [2023].
“They all paid Coventry more than Sporting, they all paid Viktor more, they all paid a higher commission to the agent.
“And I brought him to Sporting because of Ruben Amorim, because I know his work and his work with the players. I chose Ruben because he is a coach at another level.”
Gyokeres and his agent, then, have already shown their cards to Sporting and Arsenal over his future, putting a January transfer very much on the table.

Look, Gyokeres is a quality striker that could have been a great signing for Manchester United – he will come at a risk for many clubs as the Premier League is alot better than the Portuguese League.
But with Amorim already at United, he could settle very quickly
AMORIM REVEALS UNITED DECISION
New Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has opened up and revealed why he has made the decision to move to Old Trafford and the Premier League to replace the departed Erik Ten Hag.
The Old Trafford hierarchy unanimously decided to sack Erik ten Hag having decided enough was enough after Sunday’s late loss at West Ham continued their poor start to his third season in charge.
What has Amorim Said?
Speaking after Sporting’s win over Estrela, Amorim said: “The situation is: at the beginning of the season, I had a talk with him and Hugo Viana [then-sporting director] and I said that whatever happened, this would be my last season with Sporting. The president is here, he can confirm that.
“The season started, we know that we started very well. Then the Manchester United situation came and they appeared. They paid above the release clause. I never discussed anything with the president about this bargaining. The only question I made was only to go at the end of the season.
“I had three days to make my decision. The change is radical in my life but I had three days to make this decision. That’s what I did. I have had other opportunities, the president and Viana can confirm this is not the first or the second time I was asked for by another team.
“I wanted that one in Manchester. I want that context. That context allows me to do things my way. It’s just like Sporting. There’s time when I have to take the step forward. It was harder for me than for any Sporting fan but I had to do this.”
Amorim added: “I will change my kids lives so there were a lot of things. I’m not just a coach, I’m a parent. It’s just something that was extremely challenging, just like I felt with Sporting. So I decided to go. And I don’t think I will be back to Portugal any time soon.”
