Manchester United told to splash £175Million and complete world class duo signings
Former striker Louis Saha has urged Manchester United to make a bold double move for Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães this summer, advising the club to rebuild their midfield by replacing veteran anchor Casemiro with the talented Newcastle United pair.
Speaking in the latest round of media reports, Saha insisted United must be ambitious and aggressive in the upcoming transfer window if they hope to challenge the Premier League’s top sides again. He believes the Manchester United’s midfield lacks balance, dynamism and control — and that Tonali and Guimarães would immediately transform United’s ability to dominate matches
Speaking to the Mirror, Saha, who made 124 appearances for the Red Devils, said: “I’ve always been a big fan and defender of Casemiro. He was asked to do one too many roles in the last two years, but that’s been cut and now he’s settled and his role is defined. He’s proved he’s a world-class player and I understand why the fans want him to stay.
“United need aggressiveness and someone who will dictate the midfield. I see someone more like [Sandro] Tonali or [Bruno] Guimaraes, who are two monsters in midfield.
“With players like [Kobbie] Mainoo, you need someone alongside him who has the experience and vision to manage the transition when Casemiro goes. You need that experience, directness and decisiveness. It’ll be hard to replace.
“If you bring in a young player, it’s a disruption. It’s great for the future, but you need experience. If Casemiro goes, I think a combination of [Adam] Wharton and Guimaraes would be great because Guimaraes is more of a captain.”
Tonali remains highly regarded across Europe for his distribution, intelligence and leadership. Saha argued that the Italian would give United a long-term foundation in midfield and provide the kind of character the side has been missing.
Guimarães, meanwhile, continues to be linked with several top clubs following his standout performances since arriving in England. His ability to carry the ball, dictate tempo and operate in multiple midfield roles has made him one of the Premier League’s most coveted players. Saha believes the Brazilian would offer Manchester United a level of control and consistency they have lacked throughout the season.
Reports suggest United are preparing for significant squad surgery in the summer, with midfield expected to be a major area of focus. The club must decide whether Casemiro remains part of the long-term project, and Saha’s comments reflect a growing sentiment around Old Trafford that fresher, more dynamic options are required.
Newcastle, however, are unlikely to welcome interest in two of their most important players. Although financial regulations could force difficult decisions, both Tonali and Guimarães remain central to the club’s ambitions, and any negotiations would require substantial fees.
Still, Saha insists Manchester United should not hesitate. He argues that the current Premier League landscape demands bold, decisive recruitment — and that Tonali and Guimarães represent exactly the profile of midfielder needed to restore authority in the centre of the pitch.
