Defender deal officially agreed, leno injury message sent, Arsenal target Rodriguez addresses future, Arsenal have signed up David Luiz

Mari deal agreed, Leno injury message sent, Rodriguez address future, David Luiz has been signed up in Arsenal news and gossip roundup..

The much talked about defender David Luiz has signed a new deal at Arsenal, despite many calls for him to just leave.

Luiz has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few days as his performance against Manchester City just shows how unimpressive he can be in that Arsenal shirt.

Luiz’s contact was due to expire at the end of the season and an agreement was not in place for an extension, although the defender has admitted that he would like to stay at the club.

His contract at Arsenal was for just 12 months, but the club had the option to extend it for a further season if they want, and according to reports on the TalkSport website, he has managed to secure that.

The Brazilian defender has signed a one-year contract extension at the Emirates and will be at the Arsenal until next summer.

Mikel Arteta said: “Yeah, it’s very complicated with the timing of it and some of the legal issues that are involved with that.

“The club is trying to finalise everything in the next few hours and we have no choice, we have to do it and even more with all the injuries we’ve had. We are trying to resolve this.”

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno has not suffered ligament damage and will only be out for a maximum of six weeks.

The German has been Arsenal’s player of the season alongside Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang this season, as Without Leno’s saves and Aubameyang’s goals, it is no exaggeration to say Arsenal would have been in a relegation battle such are the problems at the club.

But there were some reports that Leno have suffered a severe injury and could be out of action for upto a year, which led to transfer speculation that Mikel Arteta may need to try and sign a new stopper.

Emiliano Martinez will deputise for Leno for the remaining games of this season and will look to take his chance to stake a claim for the No 1 shirt, but the good news is that Leno will only be out of action for six weeks.

Mikel Arteta revealed: “We thought it was going to be a more significant injury.

“We still don’t know the full extent but at least we know the cruciate ligaments are not damaged and that was our biggest fear at the start.

“But he is more positive and in less pain today so that’s good news and hopefully he will only be out for four to six weeks.”

Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz has confirmed that Pablo Mari has been sold to Arsenal for a fee believed to be in the region of £14million.

Arteta knows that he will probably not get alot of money to spend in the transfer window and will look to sign up a couple of bargains to improve and strengthen key areas of the pitch, with the defence an area that needs to be improved.

Since joining from the Brazilian club in January, the 26-year-old has featured in just three games in all competitions, as he arrived at the club lacking match fitness, and his season has already been cut short after he suffered an ankle injury in the 3-0 defeat against Manchester City last week, leaving him out of action for up to five months.

However, that has not stopped the Arsenal wrapping up a four-year deal to sign Mari, as Flamengo vice-president Marcos Braz has confirmed that Mari has been sold to Arsenal ahead of the summer window.

Speaking at a recent press conference, Braz said on the Sky Sports website: “Pablo Mari was sold, in fact. There is no doubt about.

“We know that he suffered a serious injury, but that matter is already resolved.

“And when the right moment comes, the numbers will come out on the club’s balance sheets.”

Arsenal transfer target James Rodriguez has hit out at accusations he is unprofessional and addressed speculation about his future at Real Madrid.

There has been alot of transfer speculation in the media over the past few months which have suggested that Arsenal are interested in nailing down the services of Rodriguez in the summer window.

It is widely believed that Rodriguez will look to leave the Bernabeu in search of first-team football, with the Premier League firmly in his sights, especially as there are a number of clubs interested.

Now, amid all the speculation, Rodriguez has opened up about all the rumours and the claims that he has not been professional enough, In an interview with TV programme Gol Caracol, he said: “It’s always uncomfortable to listen to the many lies that are said about someone, what’s important is the opinion of my family and those who know me.

“Anyway, it’s something that doesn’t affect me because I know what’s true and I work hard every day to be where I am. Those who surround me are always happy with what I have to offer.

“A lot of things have been said about me and almost all of them are lies. What most annoys me is that my professionalism has been put in doubt, and I can’t accept that.

“There never was any problem [with Zidane]. Every manager has a different taste. We have a normal working relationship. In the future you never know what’s going to happen, but if they let me choose, I would pick a club where I could show my abilities and my conditions.”

Look, Rodriguez is still a world class player that would be welcome in the premier League and Arsenal, so if there is a chance to get a transfer deal done, then Arsenal need to make sure that they are in the front of the que.

He would be a real statement signing by the club.
