Mari has Arteta message, Edu announces delight at Arsenal deal, new signing opens up after Emirates move (Video) Koulibaly transfer decision
HERE IS A ROUNDUP OF THE DEADLINE DAY NEWS FEATURING THE ARSENAL.
New Arsenal defender Pablo Mari is excited to start working under Mikel Arteta.
Arsenal have been in the transfer headlines all January with constant reports about whom could be coming into the club before the deadline on the 31st of the month, as Mikel Arteta seeks to improve the squad.
Arteta knows that he needs to solidify that back-line this month in order to get back inside the hunt for a top four spot, and then push on to challenge for a Premier League title in the coming seasons, and it seemed that he was all set to announce a deal for Mari.
Mari had reportedly said his goodbyes to Flamengo’s players and coaching staff and appeared to confirm his exit as he landed at Heathrow airport on Saturday, but after undergoing a medical with Arsenal at the weekend, a ‘disappointed’ Mari made his way back to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – and THE DEAL LOOKED DEAD.
But after opening talks once again, Arsenal have now agreed a £4.3 million deal to bring the Spaniard to London.
And he has admitted his delight at making the switch, telling the Arsenal website: “When you build a good group and have a coaching philosophy like Mikel’s, I think he can completely change Arsenal and the current dynamic around the team.
“I think as a coach he has everything it takes to achieve that, plus he has a very good side with top players. I think as time goes by and with the day-to-day work from Mikel, we can achieve that.
“Mikel transmitted a lot of confidence to me. He’s a great coach and he’s changing things at a big club.
“It’s really important to have that personality to be able take decisions at a big club during such a tricky time and I think that speaks volumes about Mikel.
“In terms of the system he uses on the pitch, I think he has very clear ideas which reflect my own vision of football. I want to work hard every day and every weekend to repay Mikel’s confidence in me.”
Arsenal technical director Edu has hailed their deal for Cedric Soares.
Arsenal have been frustrated over the past few weeks as the club have constantly missed out on their top transfer targets, with a number of rejections and over-priced asking prices meaning that the Arsenal have had to leave it late to get deals one.
Mikel Arteta may not have managed to secure a couple of world class deals this month, but there is some excitement from fans about the arrivals of both Pablo Mari and Soares, who arrived from Southampton on deadline day.
And now Edu has opened up and announced his delight that the Arsenal managed to secure a deal for Spares, who is out of contract with the Saints at the end of the season.

Arsenal have once again seen the club make some late moves and sign another defender.
All the frustration and anger at the clubs lack of ability to sign players started to get Gunners fans annoyed at the fact that the club was not improved earlier in the transfer window, but after the arrival of Pablo Mari from Flamengo, Arsenal have managed to get another deal done.
And here is what new signing Cedic Soares had to say about his move to the Arsenal.
Reports have claimed that Arsenal target Kalidou Koulibaly has decided that he wants to stay at Napoli this transfer window.
There have been some reports in the media suggesting that Arsenal were planning for potential new signings in this transfer window, as they have been given the go ahead to acquire a few more players this month.
It will mean that Mikel Arteta will be able to delve into the clubs transfer kitty and add a few players to the squad that will add some experience, and quality in the right areas of the pitch.
And one name that will be high up on the shopping list of Gunners boss boss is that of Kouliably, who is easily regarded as one of the finest central defenders in Seria A, and around Europe.
Koulibaly has been outstanding for Napoli over the past few seasons and his performances has attracted all sorts of interest from the games biggest clubs, with the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Real Madrid and even Barcelona all joining Arsenal in the chase for the defenders signature.
However, reports on THE SUN WEBSITE have claimed that he has decided that he will not leave Napoli this month and would much rather wait until the summer transfer window.
Strong, classy and composed, the 28-year-old is rightly considered world-class and would be a major statement of intent from Arteta in his quest to get the club back challenging for more than a top four spot.
But now that the club have managed to secure deals for Pablo Mari and Cedrik Soares, there will now be a feeling that Arteta will not look to improve the back-line at the end of the season.
