Chelsea make ‘high salary offer’ to striker, Target learning English ahead of move, Pulisic wants £500,000-a-week star at Chelsea, Setein has transfer message
Chelsea make Mertens offer, Werner learning English ahead of move, Pulisic wants Messi, Setein hands Lampard Martinez boost in Chelsea roundup.
strong>Chelsea fans have been told that the Blues have made a big salary offer for Napoli forward Dries Mertens.
Chelsea were able to delve into their transfer kitty this transfer window after getting their transfer ban overturned just a few months ago.
But despite all the talk, and despite all the speculation surrounding possible new Chelsea signings, Frank Lampard has been unable to complete the transfer deals that he would have liked and will now have to wait until the summer to get his transfer deals done.
And that has led to speculation in the media suggesting that a new striker will be a priority for the Blues boss, as he needs to add a top-class forward to help Tammy Abraham out with the goals, with Mertens constantly linked with a free move to Stamford Bridge.
Now RaiSport journalist Paolo Paganini has come out and claimed that Chelsea have already made their move to try and sign the Seri A forward and have offered him a bigger salary than transfer rivals Inter Milan, who have also shown an interest in the ageing star.
“Mertens away? Inter and Chelsea have re-launched the Belgian offering him a higher salary,” Paganini told Radio Goal.” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>Radio Goal.
Mertens, 32, has scored 121 goals and provided 73 assists in 311 appearances since joining Napoli from PSV Eindhoven in 2013 and despite his ageing years, he is still considered to be one of the most deadly strikers in Europe right now.
Lampard does not need to add a striker to his side that will come in and want to play on a weekly basis, he just needs a forward that will be able to teach Abraham a few things about being a top-level striker, and to help the young Englishman out.
Chelsea transfer target Timo Werner is reportedly learning English ahead of a possible summer Premier League move.
Olivier Giroud has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months as he has shown his unhappiness at not being first choice at Stamford Bridge, with Frank Lampard even admitting that he could have let the Frenchman leave the club in the winter window, if he keeps pushing for an exit.
And German striker Werner, is rated as one of the hottest prospects in Europe, with reports in the media all suggesting that he is seeking that big move to further develop his name in the game, with a host of top clubs linked with a possible move.
The German is one of the top scorers in Europe this season with 26 goals in all competitions, and is tipped to become one of the most deadly strikers in the game, with many believing that Lampard is a massive fan of the talented young German and firmly believes he could add something to the side.
Chelsea failed to get their transfer business done in the January window but have already kicked off the summer window with the signing of Hakim Ziyech, who will officially arrive at Chelsea when the transfer window officially opens up.
Lampard needs to add a world class defender, a leader at the back, he also needs to add some superstardom to that midfield, a creative force, and he also needs to delve into that transfer kitty, spend some big money and acquire Werner.
And according to Bleacher Report, Werner is honing his linguistic skills as a move to England becomes increasingly likely, and he is even excited about the prospect of playing in the Premier League.
Christian Pulisic admits he would ‘love’ to play alongside Barcelona and Argentina legend Lionel Messi at Chelsea.
Pulisic arrived at Chelsea last summer after agreeing a move to Stamford Bridge last January, and despite some decent performances, he has not made the kind of impact that many fans would have liked to see, but many believe he will come good.
Next season fans are expecting to see the very best of the American International, especially as he will be free of injury and fully rested, but he has now opened up and admitted that he would love to play alongside Messi at Chelsea.
Messi is regarded as one of the best players in history, having scored a staggering 627 goals in 718 appearances for Barcelona and helping the Spanish club win ten La Liga titles and the Champions League four times.
The Argentine hero, who has won the Ballon d’Or a record six times, is unlikely to ever leave Barcelona and looks set to finish his top-level career with the Spanish giants, but Pulisic insists he would ‘love’ for Messi to join Chelsea.
Asked who he would ‘love’ to play alongside at Chelsea, Pulisic said on the Daily Express: ‘That’s tough, man! ‘I mean Figo was my favourite player growing up but I definitely wouldn’t mind having [Lionel] Messi on my team. Can I choose both?’
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website, Pulisic also revealed Portugal legend Figo was his ‘first footballing idol’.
He added: ‘My first footballing idol was definitely Luis Figo. He’s someone I looked up to when I was younger. ‘The first shirt I owned was a Luis Figo jersey and I remember wearing it when playing football with my dad in the basement at home back in Hershey.
‘In fact, my nickname then was actually Figo! My dad started it and sometimes he even still calls me it now.’
Chelsea have closed in on a deal for Lautaro Martinez after Qique Setein announced Barcelona may not be able to afford the striker.
Despite the Coronavirus putting a hold to the Premier League season and despite the fact that the transfer window is still months away, there has been alot of speculation in the media about possible arrivals to Stamford Bridge, with a striker on the agenda.
It is no secret that Frank Lampard is keen to improve this side with some big time signings, and reports in the media have suggested he will indeed get the £200 million it will take to sign some top-class, big-time names players in the summer, with a striker on the list
Olivier Giroud is seemingly destined to pack his bags and leave the club at the end of the season having failed to agree a move away in the January window, while Mitchy batshuayi is more of a thirds-choice striker that is only needed when the other two are injured or need to rest.
And it seems that Inter Milan striker Martinez is now on the shopping list of the Chelsea boss as recent reports have claimed that both the Blues and Barcelona have tabled an offer to the Italians for their impressive striker.
The official opening date for the window is still unknown, but it is believed that clubs will be able to spend much less in the window whenever it opens, and that could have a serious impact on Barca’s transfer plans, with Setien doubtful that a deal to sign Martinez could be done.
“I am not pessimistic or optimistic with Lautaro.” rel=”noopener” target=”_blank”>Spanish radio: “I am not pessimistic or optimistic with Lautaro.
“I like [him] the way I like great soccer players, but I have no illusions with any of them.
“There will be an economic crisis due to Coronavirus – same for Neymar deal”.
Romelu Lukaku, who has scored 46-goals alongside Martinez at Inter this season, has labelled the striker a ‘beast, Asked about Martinez on Instagram Live, former Manchester United and Chelsea striker Lukaku said: ‘Amazing, the guy is really a beast. ‘He is doing so well, he keeps improving, I love him.’
It follows former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino coming out and claiming that Martinez is one of the best strikers in the world right now, Pochettino said of his compatriot on the Daily Express: ‘Lautaro is certainly one of the best strikers in the world right now.
‘It’s not just for what he does now, but for what his potential means going forward. If you start looking at forwards for the big clubs, clearly his name has to be in there.’
Would he be a good signing?
Yes he could become a great signing for Chelsea if they are actually interested in a deal, but it could ruin the chances of Abraham developing at the club, and many dont want that.
He is the kind of striker that wants to be playing every week, every minute of every game, which could be bad news for Abraham, as we said. But fans would still like him to be signed.
