Arsenal target Mata officially agrees Manchester United contract and is officially delighted!

Manchester United have officially confirmed Spanish midfielder Juan Mata has agreed a new contract at the club.

Mata is one of a number of players whose contracts were set to expire this month, and there has been a lot of speculation that he could be departing the club in the summer after failing to reach terms with United, despite the fact he has shown a desire to stay put.

That has led to speculation linking the Spaniard with a move to Barcelona, while some media outlets have also suggested that Gunners boss Unai Emery could make a cheeky offer and try to tempt the little playmaker to the Emirates, as he seeks a bargain alternative for Aaron Ramsey.

However, United have now confirmed that Mata has agreed a two-year contract to stay at the club after agreeing new terms with the club.

Mata said on the MUFC website: “It is a real honour to continue to represent this amazing club and our incredible fans. I have been at Manchester United for five years and I am proud to call Old Trafford my home.

“I am looking forward to working with Ole [Gunnar Solskjaer] and his fantastic coaching staff; the vision that they have for the club is truly exciting and I am so happy that I will be a part of that.”

Mata has been a solid performer for United over the seasons and it was strange to see that he hadnt agreed a contract earlier, especially as he has the experience to help guide the youngsters into a new era.

However, many will surely be delighted that he put pen to paper and agreed to stay at Old Trafford, especially with all the speculation linking a number of players with a transfer away from the club.

He may not be in his peak anymore, but the Spanish star is still one of the mots technically gifted players at the club.
