Kylian Mbappe to help Arsenal complete signing of midfielder wanted by Mikel Arteta
The arrival of Kylian Mbappe at Real Madrid has reportedly given ARSENAL a boost in their chase to sign talented midfielder Arda Guler, who has been struggling since his move to Madrid a few transfer windows ago.
Guler was snapped up by Madrid for £17million last season, but spent a good chunk of the campaign on the sidelines due to a string of injuries. However, when he returned to action, Guler made a real splash and ended the season with five goals in his final five La Liga appearances.
However – he has once again been unable to get the game time that he would have wanted this season after the arrival of Endrick and Kylian Mbappe, and has once again struggled to get some game time in that Carlo Ancelotti side.
And reports in Spain have claimed that he may now look to leave the club in the coming windows if his game time does not improve, which will alert Arsenal, as they have been tipped to make a move for the young man.
Gunners boss Mikel Arteta isn’t lacking attacking options, having secured Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling on loan and with the rise of Ethan Nwaneri. But versatility and depth are essential for any title push, and Guler would provide Arsenal with both.
But amid the speculation and While recognising Guler’s undoubted potential, Darren Bent – a lifelong supporter of Arsenal – believes Mikel Arteta already has strength in depth in the teenager’s position: ‘Not for me. You want a grade out of five? I’ll say one,’ the ex-England, Tottenham and Charlton forward said on talkSPORT’s Insider Gooners podcast.
‘He won’t fit the squad. I think he’s a very good player, I saw him at the Euros, very talented. But will you swap one bench for another?
‘At Real Madrid he’s not getting the opportunities. Coming to ARSENAL there are better options, be it out wide or in the No.10 role.
‘I can’t see that one happening. Good player, but, not for Arsenal, no.’
