Jurgen Klopp insists Liverpool will not spend money simply because their Premier League rivals do.
Liverpool are now the best team in England after regaining that League title back after 30 years, but to stay ahead of the rest next season, there is a feeling that the club will need to carry on improving the squad.
Liverpool have not spent heavily over the past two seasons, as They signed Takumi Minamino from Red Bull Salzburg in January for a little over £7 million, but last summer opted to only bring in two youth prospects, Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott, and two back-up goalkeepers in Andy Lonergan and Adrian.
But after seeing reports that their Premier League title rivals will be eyeing up a number of signings during the transfer window, Klopp has come out and insisted that he will not spend money this summer simply because hos rivals have delved into that transfer kitty.
“I’m completely happy with my squad, 100 per cent,” he told Sky Sports. “I was last year when everybody asked us to sign him and him and him. Because of our reasons, we didn’t do it. It’s not that we didn’t want to do it.
“We try to make right decisions constantly, but then Covid came and changed the situation again and not for the better – for all business in the world, not just football.
“It’s not that we don’t think we cannot improve, even on a transfer basis. We just do what is possible for us and what we are able to do.
“Other teams, if they invest then maybe they know more about the future, I don’t know.”
Transfer expert Duncan Castles believes Jurgen Klopp could look to bring Raul Jimenez to Liverpool in the summer.
Jimenez has had an amazing season over at Wolves and his goals this season have helped them challenge for a Champions league place, although they have missed out on a top four spot in the final hurdle.
But it is expected that one of the big Premier League clubs could come calling for Jimenez in the transfer window, with Manchester United and Arsenal reportedly leading the chase for the Mexican International.
However, Castles believes Jurgen Klopp could look to bring Jimenez to Liverpool, He said on the Transfer Window podcast: “I can see why there would be interest from Liverpool and the player because of the way he has performed for Wolves.
“There is a lot of competition there, he is first-choice for Juventus if they manage to dump Gonzalo Higuain in the current market pace and raise sufficient revenue from transfers.
“One of the players they are trying to sell and sell to England is Douglas Costa.
“To be able to get Jimenez from Wolves, and they want to put him in an attack alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala which would be entertaining to watch for sure, and frightening to defend against.
“This will not be a cheap deal, Wolves paid a lot of money for Raul Jimenez to get him from Benfica. He is paid a very good salary there.
“They know his value, they’re a tough club to buy players from and I’m not sure whether Fenway Sports Group are prepared to back Klopp in the manner which would be required financially to get Jimenez from Wolves.
“While there is an interest, an understandable interest, it will be an interesting test of how much support FSG are prepared to give Klopp going into this next season to defend that Premier League title.”
Liverpool transfer target Kylian Mbappe has committed his future to Paris Saint-Germain amid speculation linking him with a move away.
Mbappe is already regarded as one of the best players in the game, and is tipped to become a real legend of football in the coming seasons, as he is seen as the man that will replace greats Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
But still, there are many links to Mbappe and Liverpool still circling in the media, especially as there is talk that Sadio Mane could leave the club and make a possible move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in the summer.
The forward marked his return to football with the opening goal in PSG’s 4-0 friendly win over Celtic on Tuesday night and addressed his future after the match, which has seemingly ended the immediate interest from Liverpool
‘I am here and I’m in this project for the fourth year,’ he told beIN Sports.
‘This is the 50th year of the club and it’s an important year in the eyes of the club, supporters and everyone.
‘I will be here no matter what and I will try to win trophies with the team and do everything possible to get the best out of myself.’
Mbappe is keeping a close eye on Liverpool and rightly so, if any club were going to tempt him away from PSG right now it would be the Reds. So the news that he has committed his future to the club is no big shock.
He is young, he is enjoying his football, he is getting a crazy high wage, there is no need to move clubs right now and test himself outside of France.
