Former Blues star urges Chelsea to make smart decision and sell star man Hazard this summer

Former Chelsea star Mario Melchiot has urged his former club to cash in on star man Eden Hazard this coming transfer window, claiming it would be good for the Blues.

Hazard has been in the transfer headlines for all the wrong reasons ever since the World Cup last season after he admitted that maybe it was time for him to pack his bags and leave the club for a fresh challenge, with Real Madrid his preferred destination.

However, Madrid never officially made a move for Hazard and in the end Maurizio Sarri convinced the Belgian to stay another season, in hope they could get the winger to sign the massive £375,000-a-week deal that was left on the table, something Hazard has so far failed to do.

But Melchiot believes selling him to the Spanish giants for £100million this summer would be ‘great business’ for the London club.

Speaking on Monday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, the former centre-back said: “Keeping him for another year and letting him go for free? That would be bad business.

“As a fan, all along I want to keep Hazard until the last minute. But as a business it would not be a smart move to hold onto him.

“You don’t want to let anybody walk out for free.

“If you can get a lot of money for him… he’s on his last year and still has a value of around £100m. If they can get that for him, it would be great.”

Hazard is ab absolute superstar for both Chelsea and the premier League and losing him to Madrid will be a massive blow to the English game. But Melchiot is right and losing Hazard for nothing at the end of next season for nothing is not worth it.

£100 million goes along way in the transfer market and Chelsea could use that money to find an adequate replacement for the Belgian, even add to it and try for Neymar or Kylian Mbappe.

So even though losing their main source of goals in the summer would be a massive blow, especially with the impending transfer ban that they face, well it would still be better than losing him for nothing at the end of next season that is for sure.
