Arsenal reach agreement to sign star – Arteta told sign Frenchman – Ex-Prem star wants to see powerhouse at Arsenal
Here is a roundup of the top Arsenal news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you could have missed featuring an incoming deal for Mikel Merino, Ngolo Kante and Ivan Toney…
Arsenal have reached an agreement with Real Sociedad for Mikel Merino and finally sign the player that Mikel Arteta has been keen to bring to the club for the last couple of months.
ARSENAL and Sociedad have been locked in talks this week over a deal for Merino, with the Spanish club holding out for a fee of around £34million.
Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay is said to have flown to London for negotiations and there is optimism that an agreement can be reached.
Merino, who was in the Spain squad that won Euro 2024, wants to join Arsenal and was left out of the Sociedad squad for their opening game of the La Liga season on Sunday.
Now – according to The Athletic, the clubs have agreed on a £33million fee including add-ons, with reports adding that Merino has already finalised personal terms on a four-year deal with the option of a further year, the report adds.
Bacary Sagna has recently admitted that he will be a great signing for the Gunners – Speaking to Paddy Power, he said: “Mikel Merino is another good footballer, and we saw how important he was during the Euros for Spain. He’s been linked with Arsenal for a while, and he’s got quality to add to the club. I’m not surprised Arsenal are in for him because Arteta will have been following him.
“He’s someone who can adapt to any club and he’s a bit like İlkay Gündoğan because he arrivces in the box at the right moment and we saw him do that for Spain. ARSENAL need to double up in that position [centre midfield] and he’s one of them who would be a big addition to the squad.
“They need players like that and need competition in the squad. If it happens, it would be very promising to start the season like these.”
ARSENAL TOLD TO SIGN KANTE –
Emmanuel Petit believes Arsenal should withdraw their interest in £33m target Mikel Merino and launch an audacious move for former Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.
Chelsea offloaded the Frenchman last summer as he joined the Saudi Pro League influx, signing for Al-Ittihad, as his time at Stamford Bridge was over because of the players age and performances.
However, despite turning 34 in March, he was a standout player for France during this summer’s European Championships and has looked every inch the player that helped the Blues win so many titles over the years.
That has led to some stunning reports in the media which have claimed that he could be heading back to the Premier League and now Emmanuel Petit has urged ARSENAL to make a move for the Frenchman and pull out of a chase for Mikel Merino.
according to The Athletic, the clubs have agreed on a £33million fee including add-ons, with reports adding that Merino has already finalised personal terms on a four-year deal with the option of a further year, the report adds
He told Safest Casino Sites: “If Arsenal want to bring a player who will be great competition for the midfielders, I don’t think it should be Mikel Merino or Frenkie de Jong because they’re primarily number eights.
“I think Arsenal should bring back N’Golo Kante to the Premier League. I want him to play for Arsenal, he would be so important to the side in terms of rotation.
“Kante’s spirit, reading of the game and breaking the opposition lines is still top quality. He can play as a holding midfielder and as a number eight.
“When you look at ARSENAL’s squad, they’re all humble, that fits Kante perfectly and Arteta would love him.”

Look, Kante was brilliant for France in the European Championships – but we cant even see him coming back to the Premier League – he is getting far too much money in Saudi Arabia.
IVAN TONEY CLAIM MADE –
Former Tottenham man Dimitar Berbatov has revealed he likes the idea of Ivan Toney joining Arsenal this summer window as speculation over a potential deal continues to rumble on.
Ever since Toney made his return to football back in the January window – there has been alot of speculation and rumours about where he could end up as all the big clubs have been linked with moves.
ARSENAL are in need of adding that one big striker that could bang in 30 goals a season as Gabriel Jesus constantly picks up injuries and Kai Havertz is not a number nine – despite netting a few times last season.
However – it is believed that the style of Toney does not suit the style of Arteta – that he would just be a player that would make an impact off the bench – that he is not the right type of signing for the Gunners.
But amid the constant speculation regarding the big man – Berbatov has not opened up and claimed that he likes the idea of seeing Toney at Arsenal – He told Futbin: “Toney to Arsenal? Why not?
“I think he made the most of his playing time at the Euros and gave everything and the best that he could with such a limited amount of playing time.
“The way he plays the game. The way he moves, scoring goals, taking penalties and taking responsibility means it’s time for the next step but which direction that is we will have to wait and see.”

So much speculation and so much rumours about a move to ARSENAL for Toney over the weeks – but we are sure that if Arteta wanted a deal to happen – he would have brought the big man to the Emirates by now.
