President says ‘he may be forced’ to sell Spaniard to Arsenal after talks!
Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay has hinted that the club may be forced to sell Arsenal target Mikel Merino
After an impressive season with Sociedad was followed up by some impressive performances at the Euros 2024 – there has been alot of speculation that Arsenal are interested in a deal for Merino.
Recent reports have claimed that ARSENAL have made their moves to sign the Spaniard and he is very keen on making the move to the Emirates – but a fee between the two clubs have been holding up a potential move.
But it now seems that Sociedad is trying to stop one of the clubs biggest players from leaving at all after president Jokin Aperrbay recently revealed that they have offered the midfielder a contract – but he has jokingly hinted that the club could be forced to sell the midfielder.
“I don’t know. We are aware that Merino has offers, and we know them,” Apperibay told Mundo Deportivo. “The conversation with him and those around him has been very sincere and hopefully his decision is to stay. He already knows that we want him to stay.
“He has had a renewal offer for some time. And if not, we will try to negotiate the best way out for Real. What we think is that the club has to look to the future. Try to be stronger every year or every day.
“You don’t have to hide behind a contract when a player tells you that he wants to take advantage of an opportunity. Daily work makes us stronger.”

The Spaniards dont want to lose Merino – but it really looks like he would like that move to ARSENAL this summer – it may be the only chance he gets to play for the Gunners.
It will be very interesting to see how this all plays out as this new contract offer puts areal spanner in the works if it is big enough.
