Gunners legend Merson opens up and rips into Arsenal after transfer decision

Gunners legend Paul Merson has slammed Arsenal for letting an experienced player like Aaron Ramsey leave the club.

After over ten years and 350 appearances for the club, Arsenal and Ramsey have decided to part ways after failing to agree a new contract and he will now leave the club at the end of the season to join Italian Champions Juventus.

It is believed Juventus beat off the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona to the signature of Ramsey, and Merson has hit out at his former club and claimed his former club are stupid for allowing Ramsey to leave.

“It’s stupidity from Arsenal to allow someone of Ramsey’s quality to let their contract run down,” he told Sky Sports.

“It’s yet another player after Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott. Players’ contracts come to an end then they all leave on frees.

“In footballing terms, it’s criminal. It’s like buying an £80m house, waiting for the leasehold to run out and losing the house.

“Arsene Wenger sorted out his contract every year but seemed to forget everyone else’s!

“I wouldn’t mind if all these players were 35 years of age or older, but they are in the prime of their careers when they are playing their best football ever.”

Was it the right decision to let Ramsey leave?

The Welshman has been a pivotal player for the Gunners over the seasons and letting a player that is worth close to £50 million leave for nothing, well that is not very good business by the Gunners.

However, he did ask for more than he deserved and Arsenal believe they have made the right decision, especially since Unai Emery is encouaraging a new style of play at the Emirates.

He is a top player and Arsenal will need to find an immediete replacement.
