ARSENAL boss Mikel Arteta is keen to secure the signing of Joao Cancelo from Premier League champions Manchester City

Last season Mikel Arteta really has got many fans excited – as the Gunners came very close to winning that Premier League title

There will be Champions League football next season for Arsenal, despite the fact Man City picked up another title, and Arteta knows that he will need to add to his squad in order to keep challenging for the titles.

The Gunners are interested in the star, with Arteta and Cancelo working together for a few months at Man City before the Spaniard left to take charge of Arsenal.

There had been some speculation in the media that Barcelona were also open to trying to get a transfer deal done in the summer window – having been long-term fans of the Man City star.

But Barcelona manager Xavi recently revealed his club’s interest in Cancelo was prominent only in January – leaving the Gunners with a good chance of getting the man.

Talks between the club and the player’s agents have gone well and the only stumbling block could be the transfer fee, according to reports on the SUN.

Man City value the player at £45m but it is thought that Arsenal are readying a bid of £35m to test the waters in Manchester.

Cancelo is a brilliant star that would be a great signing for ARSENAL and that is why Man City will not allow him to move to London unless it is for crazy money that the defender is no longer worth.

But as we said – he would be a brilliant signing if the Gunners can pull off a transfer deal
