Mikel Arteta admits that his position as Arsenal manager is “under scrutiny” after the Gunners went out of the Europa League.

Arteta has delivered FA Cup and Community Shield triumphs while at the Gunners helm, and there was big expectations that he could deliver a Premier League challenge this season.

However, That has not been the case this season and he has seen his big players under-perform, has seen his back-line concede too many goals and his strikers not score enough goals, which has left the club ninth in the Premier League and without European football for the first time in 25 years.

That has led to speculation that the Arsenal board will make a decision on the future of Arteta and will look to let the Spaniard depart the club at the end of the season, with a number of names being linked with a move.

Arteta is aware of the pressure he finds himself under after struggling to establish forward momentum at Arsenal and told reporters when asked if he remains the right man for the job: “I wouldn’t be sitting here if I couldn’t. You will see it. It’s not about talking, it’s about showing it on the pitch.

“I feel the pressure all the time because I want to do as good as I can for the team, for every support that I have here and for the fans. Today is a big disappointment because we tried everything to be in that final.

“I think everybody’s job is under scrutiny.”
