Mikel Arteta sends very exciting deadline day transfer message to Arsenal fans
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is expected to turn his attention back to the transfer market after the Gunners made it two Premier League wins from two with a narrow 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.
Bukayo Saka’s second-half strike proved decisive at Villa Park as the defending champions edged a closely fought contest and maintained their perfect start to the campaign.
The result gives Arsenal another important three points, but with the summer transfer window set to close at 11pm on Tuesday, attention will quickly switch back towards recruitment.
Arteta is understood to remain keen on adding attacking depth before the deadline, with Arsenal continuing to be linked with a move for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez
Arteta said: “I said, we are trying to improve the squad, and until tomorrow night we’re going to try to do that. I’ve been disconnected from the world for 24 hours because I think my energy and focus has to be on the match.
“I will get back on it now.
“We know that the depth has to be really big when you are fighting for four competitions in the manner that we play as well.
“So we’re going to try to do that.”
Opinion: Alvarez would take Arsenal to another level
ARSENAL‘s decision to continue pursuing an attacker makes sense, particularly given the number of games they could face this season.
Alvarez would be an outstanding addition. His ability to score goals, link play and operate across the frontline would give Arteta another tactical option and reduce the pressure on Arsenal’s existing forwards.
The victory over Villa also demonstrated that the Gunners can win difficult matches without playing at their best, but adding another elite attacker could make them even more dangerous.
The biggest challenge is time. With the deadline approaching rapidly, ARSENAL cannot afford lengthy negotiations.
