Neville opens up after seeing Martial sign big Man United contract and Defender Jones signs big contract

Gary Neville has admitted his delight at Anthony Martial’s new deal and has urged the Frenchman to develop at Old Trafford.

After months of speculation and weeks of talks, United finally convinced the Frenchman commit his long-term future to the club and end the speculation that he could leave for the like of Juventus, PSG, Arsenal or Liverpool.

His deal will now keep him at the club until 2024, and he has admitted he is now feeling the love which has so far eluded him at Old Trafford during his stint with the club.

And Neville says he has the potential to bring even more to United and has urged the striker to keep developing into a superstar.

He told Sky Sports: ‘It would be too big a risk to let someone of that potential and promise (to leave).

‘He is still at a good level, his assists and goals record are not bad, but there is a lot more to come from him. ‘This contract is a reward for him and he now has a manager who believes in him and is playing him in different positions and making him do different things.

‘From United’s point of view, they now need a return on that investment and that promise and potential that he has shown in glimpses and moments in the last three and a half years to now become a consistent set of performances that will mean he becomes one of the best players in Europe in his position.’

Meanwhile, Phil Jones has signed a new Manchester United contract until 2023, with the option to extend by a further year.

The defender, who has been with the club since 2011, ended months of speculation that he could leave the club at the end of the season and signed the new deal, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer continues to bring good vibes back to the club.

Jones said on the United website: “I am delighted to have signed a new contract. Manchester United has been a big part of my life for eight years and I love everything about this club.

“I am excited about the challenges that lie ahead of us as we prepare for a very busy period in the season. I would like to thank Ole and the coaching staff for their continued support in my development.”
