Graham Potter has announced that he is very proud to have been confirmed as the next boss of Chelsea

German coach Tuchel led Chelsea to the Champions League title in 2021 and the Club World Cup crown in 2022, but has paid the price for an indifferent start to the new campaign.

New owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have worked hard all summer to impose their authority at Chelsea, but this represents the boldest and most sweeping change yet

Chelsea have sacked Thomas Tuchel in the wake of Tuesday’s chastening 1-0 Champions League defeat at Dinamo Zagreb, the Premier League club have announced – despite the reports that he begged to not get the chop

The Blues have moved very quickly to replace the German – and have completed the hiring of Potter on a five-year deal after agreeing to pay his £16 million clause

On making the move to Stamford Bridge, Potter said: ‘I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.

We are not saying that Potter is not a top coach – but this is a massive step up for the man

Expectations will be great – players he is now working with are all world class and used to winning trophies and if he does not get things right quickly – he could get the sack very quickly

Ousmane Dembele has provided an update on his future at Barcelona amid interest from Chelsea

The 25-year-old was heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer as clubs queued up for the chance to sign one of Europe’s most exciting wingers free of charge

It was reported on many occasions that Dembele was a player that Barcelona were not willing to keep – especially as they are in financial trouble and cannot pay the star players the contracts they desire

However – despite all the speculation – despite all the rumours that Dembele would be leaving Barca – and despite all the rumours that Chelsea were very keen on trying to get a deal done – a move never materialised and he stayed put

But that has not stopped all the speculation regarding his long-term future at the club and there has been some talk that Chelsea and Arsenal are just two clubs that could make a move in the January window

But it seems that Dembele has other plans.

Speaking to Spanish outlet ‘Sport’, as quoted by Marca, the winger said: “My relationship with Xavi is special, I want to stay by his side for a long time. Undoubtedly, Xavi has been key to continue.

“Also the president, I talk a lot with both of them. I’m fine. Everyone is happy now.”

Mendy moved to Chelsea just a few seasons ago in a switch that many could not believe happened – as he was a massive gamble for the club

However – since his move to the Premier League giants – he has developed into one of the very best goalkeepers in the world and a man that the club has been able to rely on pretty much every week

But The former Nice star’s form has dipped at the start of this season – and has come under fire from the media for a number of poor performances and costly errors that have cost the Blues vital points

However – that has not stopped the club from making their moves and trying to get him tied down to a nice big contract which would see him become one of the highest earners at Stamford Bridge – but fans have been left stunned

Mendy has turned down an opening offer said to be inferior to the £190,000-a-week salary current No.2 and former club-record signing Kepa Arrizabalaga earns.

Addressing Mendy’s form, meanwhile, ahead of tonight’s Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb, Thomas Tuchel said: ‘I think it’s a very sensitive position in football in general — and it’s not everything that’s just pure quality and only about decision-making.

‘It’s also about the feeling and the feeling that you feel the confidence and sometimes it’s a bit of also having the luck.

‘Somebody sent me an interesting quote about Napoleon, who asked his generals if they should not only have the best quality, but he needs also that they are lucky generals.

‘So, this is what you need also from leaders and from goalkeepers, and that they have the kind of momentum that if they do a little mistake, it’s not punished.

‘Now, he gets punished a lot for not a lot of what he does wrong, but there are no doubts in my mind.

‘The situation is calm. We have two fantastic goalkeepers, two fantastic guys. We are aware of it that [Mendy] is in that kind of situation, but first, we deal inside and then we tell you.’
