‘Im not just saying it because its Newcastle’ legend Alan Shearer sends message to FA and Premier League

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has claimed the FA Cup should be be played out this end of season.

After weeks of no football, no training and pure speculation, Top-flight clubs returned to training last week, the first stage of Project Restart, which is aiming to get competitive action back underway next month.

The go-ahead of stage two is set to be decided on Wednesday when clubs will vote on whether to resume contact training, but after seeking the Bundesliga already start back up and the La Liga schedule to get underway from June 1st, the Premier League action should be back soon.

But if the campaign is to get back underway, Magpies legend Shearer is adamant the FA Cup should be included in any new fixture schedule.

“No, definitely not,” Shearer said when asked if the competition should be forgotten about on the Sky Sports website.

“And I’m not just saying it because Newcastle are in the quarter-finals – and are normally long since out!

“If we are getting the league campaign done then we can get the FA Cup finished. There’s only one more round and then it’s a neutral venue for the semis and final anyway – normally Wembley.

“All eight teams left are from the Premier League, so I’m sure it could be fitted into the schedule. It’s important to get it finished.”

Look, getting the Premier League season back underway should be the only tournament that finishes in England right now, clubs have to put safety first and the Domestic cups cant wait another season.

We cant wait to see the action get back underway next month, it has been far too long, but the Premier League season should be finished first and foremost, the players shouldnt worry themselves about playing extra fixtures in the cup games.
