Newcastle close in on transfer deal after midfielder told to leave Tottenham in January
Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks should look to leave the club on loan in January, according to Danny Mills, which will alert Newcastle United
Winks was a big part of the plans under former boss Mauricio Pochettino during his time with the club, but since the appointment of Jose Mourinho, the Englishman has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot in the side.
Newcastle and Leeds United are two clubs that have been linked with moves for the player, and with the January transfer window just a few weeks away, Mills has opened up and urged Winks to consider leaving the club when the winter window opens up
“In January he’s got to be looking at a move because you’ve got Hojbjerg who has come in with Sissoko and Ndombele who has turned things around with Mourinho,” Mills told Football Insider.
“So I just look at it and think Harry Winks needs to be playing to have a chance of getting in that England squad for the Euros.
“A loan move may well be the best thing for him, not long term, just to get out and play football, so he can show Gareth what he’s capable of and he can keep his fitness levels up and keep his sharpness up.”
Winks is a very gifted young player that has real ability, so it is strange to see that he cannot get in this Tottenham side, but at the end of the day, if he wants game time, he will not get it under Mourinho.
If the right club come calling, then he should make the move, for the sake of his career and Newcastle or Leeds would be a very good option for him to make
