Old Manchester United ‘would have signed Kane or Haaland’ fans have been told
Ally McCoist believes the Manchester United of old would have gone all out to sign Harry Kane or Erling Haaland.
It was no secret that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was desperate to spend money in the transfer window and sign a new world class striker that would bring 30-40 goals to this already exciting attack.
Haaland and Kane are regarded as two of the finest strikers in the game right now, and have been linked with a move to Old Trafford for many seasons, but despite all the rumours, United only managed to secure a transfer deal for Cavani.
The 33-year-old Uruguay international undoubtedly made his name as one of the world’s top forwards over the past decade, but doubts have been raised over whether he can hit the ground running in a new country at his age.
And talkSPORT host Ally McCoist has echoed those sentiments: “If United were going to be really serious about a centre forward, the old United would have bought Haaland or Kane,” he began. “No messing about. Lets go and get the job done and buy one of these top, top centre-forwards.
“They’ve tried to plug a gap. Cavani might prove to be a good goal-scorer this season, but is he the long-term future of Manchester United? Absolutely not. Not a chance.
“You can argue that even if he does score a few goals this season, they’re going to have the same problem next year.
“Years ago, Manchester United, certainly under Fergie, would have gone to get somebody like Haaland or made an offer Spurs can’t refuse for Harry Kane.”
McCoist is right and United would have gone out and signed one of the best strikers in the game, so why didnt they over the transfer window?
