Here is a roundup of the top Chelsea news and gossip from icfootballnews that we think you may have missed today –

CHELSEA have entered talks with Southampton after putting Romeo Lavia ‘top of their list’ of targets at Stamford Bridge,

Chelsea have had an awful season this year and will end the campaign with no trophies or no Champions league football – meaning the club will need to splash some more cash in the summer window.

Incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino is a man that is heading to the club over the next few weeks after agreeing to take over the Premier League giants for the next few seasons.

Many clubs including CHELSEA, Arsenal and former side Manchester City are pushing to sign the 19-year-old this summer after an impressive campaign – despite the fact the Saints have been relegated.

Now – journalist Rudy Galetti has told GIVEMESPORT that Chelsea have opened serious talks about getting a £40 million transfer deal done – he said: “With the potential outgoing transfers of Loftus-Cheek and Kovacic, Chelsea are looking for two new midfielders.

“Romeo Lavia is at the top of their list and talks with Southampton have already started.”

Amid the speculation Iomie Stanley has delivered a huge update on the midfielder from an Chelsea perspective.

CHELSEA could still come back in for Moises Caicedo, even if the priority is Declan Rice. And they could go for Romeo Lavia as well”, he said.

“They won’t get all three, but it could indicate that they might be looking for two in the centre of the park when these targets are concrete.

“They’re looking at such a high volume of players because not all these deals are easy, particularly the ones involving the teams that are well down in the Premier League.

‘Lavia is one of the most important players that the Saints have and will want to keep the lad – especially because he has a massive future in the game and will not command a massive wage when the club get relegated to the Championship.

‘But Lavia will want to stay in the Premier League and will want to join a club that will give him that opportunity – so he will be looking for a way out as soon as the transfer window opens up.’

POCHETTINO SIGNS –

Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, CHELSEA’s co-sporting directors has revealed why the club have hired Mauricio Pochettino.

After a very difficult season in which the club have spent alot of money – gone through three bosses and finished outside the top half of the table – it was time for an immediate change.

There were alot of managers linked with a move to Stamford Bridge over the past few months – but Chelsea decided that Pochettino was the man to get the club challenging once again for titles.

The 51-year-old has several seasons of Premier League experience in addition to coaching in Spain and France. He was most recently in charge at Paris Saint-Germain and guided the club to a Ligue 1 title and the Coupe de France.

Mauricio’s staff will include Jesus Perez, Miguel d’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and Sebastiano Pochettino.

And after the announcement was made that he was coming to the club Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley has revealed why he was brought to the club – they told the club website: ‘Mauricio’s experience, standards of excellence, leadership qualities and character will serve Chelsea Football Club well as we move forward.

‘He is a winning coach, who has worked at the highest levels, in multiple leagues and languages. His ethos, tactical approach and commitment to development all made him the exceptional candidate.’

After Thomas Tuchel got the sack from Chelsea – Pochettino should have been the man they hired then to carry on the season and not Graham Potter.

He really is a class coach that will bring entertaining football to Stamford Bridge – the fans will be delighted with this.

UGARTE TO SIGN

It has been claimed that Manuel Ugarte could be completing his move to CHELSEA as early as next week.

Mauricio Pochettino will be the next boss of Chelsea after the board got rid of Thomas Tuchel – Graham Potter and then let Frank Lampard leave the club once more.

The Argentine boss is keen to add some players to the squad that will improve key areas of the pitch and a new defensive midfielder is on the agenda of the former Tottenham boss.

Jorginho departed the club back in January and was immediately replaced by the exciting Enzo Fernandez – but with reports Ngolo Kante and Mateo Kovacic could also depart the club – Ugarte is a man that Pochettino reportedly wants.

Sporting boss Ruben Amorim has already admitted it is hard for the Portuguese club to keep hold of Ugarte this summer with clubs across Europe registering an interest in signing the midfielder

“I cannot comment on this issue, because it is beyond me. Now, we know that it is difficult to keep players like Ugarte,” Amorim told Ojogo.

“Not just one club is interested, but several. Our objective is to sell, knowing that we missed the Champions League and it makes everything more difficult.

“I know what I want for the team and I have already conveyed that to the management.

Now – Uruguayan transfer insider Franco Fernandez claims that Chelsea are the frontrunners to acquire Ugarte’s services and that a deal could be thrashed out as early as next week.

He tweeted: “Manuel Ugarte was on the bench [against Vizela], he did not see minutes waiting for his future for the transfer period. His arrival at Chelsea could be confirmed next week.”

There are already so many players linked with a move to CHELSEA and Ugarte is one for the future.

He could be great – he may flop – but the Premier League will test his ability that is for sure.
