Former Gunner opens up and announces £350,000-a-week Ozil money causing Arsenal tension

Former Gunner Jeremy Aliadiere has claimed that Mesut Ozil may be causing tension in the dressing room because of his sky high wages at Arsenal.

Ozil is one of the Gunners biggest players and one of the best number tens in world football, when he is on top form. But he has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past 12 months as his performances in an Arsenal shirt have not matched the wages he was given under Arsene Wenger.

It was no secret that Ozil was almost out-of-contract last February before Arsenal gave in and offered him a massive £350,000-a-week deal, especially as they literally just let Alexis Sanchez leave for Manchester United and did not want to lose another big named player.

But since then his performances have been inconsistent and he has been heavily criticised for his work-rate, even being dropped by current boss Unai Emery for the big games of the premier League season, with many ultimately claiming that he could be sold in the summer.

And, given the wage he is on, Aliadiere believes this may be causing an issue in the Arsenal changing room.

“Knowing that he’s not going to those big games, you think ‘why am I not getting this’,” Aliadiere said.

“They’re there every single game grafting. On paper, he’s the biggest player they’ve got.

“But you look at Ozil and think ‘I want the same’. They’re going to the big games and trying. Sometimes it can create a bit of tension in the dressing room.”

Here is what we think.

Ozil getting so much money may not be the issue in the dressing room for the German as it is a fact that bigger players command a bigger wage, but it is the fact that he has not earned that kind of money that is frustrating many at the club, and whom support the club.

Ozil can be the man that deserves £350,000-a-week wages, but more often than not he has become a reliability for the club.
