Midfielder expects to be at Arsenal, Lacazette talks planned, £65m star breaks transfer silence, Emery told to sign three
Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news and gossip
Arsenal plan to open talks and hand Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette a new contract, amid speculation Barcelona are seeking a transfer deal.
Arsenal failed to get back inside the top four spot in the Premier League this season and missed out on Champions League football for another season, but the Gunners have a chance to win the Europa League under Unai Emery this season.
But as we approach silly season, there has been some speculation in the media which have claimed that Barcelona may look to try and take the French striker away from the Emirates at the end of the season, as a possible replacement for Luis Suarez.
Barcelona are looking to reveal a number of positions in the transfer window after their humiliating Champions League exit, and have targeted a number of Premier League sides, including Arsenal.
But reports on the Daily Mail website have claimed Lacazette is considered invaluable and the club want to sit down with his representatives once the season finishes to improve his current deal. (Read More)
Lille star Nicolas Pepe has broken his silence on his imminent departure from the French giants, with Arsenal rumoured to be keen on a deal.
With the Premier League season coming to a close and the Gunners attention focusing on next season, there has been a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the past few months on whom they will look to try and acquire in the coming transfer window.
And one name that has been mentioned about a possible move to the Premier League is that of Pepe, as the 23-year-old Pepe is among the most highly-rated forwards in Europe and his transfer value is estimated at more than £65 million.
Pepe has broken the 20-goal mark in all competitions this season and has been tipped to become one of the most deadly strikers in the game, with Arsenal boss Unai Emery a big fan.
And amid all the transfer speculation surrounding his future with the club, Pepe’s agent, Samir Khiat, recently stated the 23-year-old has yet to decide which club he will join, but now looks certain to leave at the end of the season.
And now Pepe has spoken out about his future, playing down talk of a move away until the transfer window opens up.
“We don’t talk about it, the season is not over yet,” he told beIN Sports.
“Once it is finished we will be able to talk about it, but now no.” (Read More)
German star Mesut Ozil has announced that he wants to stay at Arsenal this coming summer window.
Ozil has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few months as there is constant speculation in the media suggesting that Ozil will be heading towards the exit signs.
Unai Emery has a style of play that just does not suit the German midfielder, and Ozil has been dropped more often than not this season when it comes to the big games.
The likes of Bayern Munich, PSG and a move to the MLS have been all talked about as possible destinations for the German, as Emery would be willing to get him off the wage bill.
However, Ozil has opened up and admitted that he does not want to leave the Emirates at the end of the season and wants to stay at Arsenal.
“I don’t think there’s a chance of that [leaving] to be honest,” Ozil told DAZN DACH.
“I’ve got two more years here and what happens afterwards is not in my hands.
“We’ll see then, but I’m proud to be at this club and really happy at this club.” (Read More)
Gunners legend Nigel Winterburn has told Unai Emery he needs to secure a new defender, central-midfielder and wideman for Arsenal this summer window.
Despite their impressive run in the Europa League and late season form, Arsenal have not had the best of seasons under Emery and there has been much criticism about the quality of the Gunners squad, especially in the wide areas and the back-line.
That has led to a lot of transfer speculation in the media linking Arsenal with a number of possible signings this summer, with the latest rumours linking Emery with a move for Lille striker Nicolas Pepe.
Now Gunners hero Winterburn says that defence is one of the three areas the Arsenal boss must target in the summer transfer window.
‘I’d like to see a pacy attacking wide player come to the club, potentially another midfield player and there is a lot being said about the need to restrengthen in defence,’ he told Love Sport Radio.
‘But I think Unai Emery may be looking at the likes of Rob Holding, who had a fantastic six months and then picked up a serious knee injury.
‘He was coming through and looking very, very consistent. It’s just a case of where Unai Emery feels he needs to strengthen.
‘Everyone will say that defensively Arsenal haven’t been great again this season but it’s not just about the defence. It’s about when Arsenal do concede how quickly they get played through the lines.
‘I’m quite excited about what’s going to happen to Arsenal next season and I’m very intrigued to see where Emery thinks Arsenal need strengthening. But my own thoughts are a wide player, another midfielder and potentially another centre-half.
‘But I can’t see much more than that coming into the club because we’re hearing that Arsenal haven’t got a vast amount of money to spend.’
