Partey could have unleashed the best in Mesut Ozil, lagend claims while Podolski slams Arteta for headline-making Arsenal decision

Arsenal signing Thomas Partey could have unleashed the best in Mesut Ozil – Paul Merson has claimed.

The Gunners were desperate to add a star name to their midfield this summer, with Partey and Houssem Aouar targeted, but After months of failed negotiations, Arsenal were forced to trigger Partey’s £45million release clause on deadline day.

He has made a real impact on this Arsenal squad and is putting in all the right kind of performances, which is leading the Gunners back to the very top of that Premier League title, and getting many fans excited.

But Merson has been left disappointed by one aspect of Arteta’s work in the summer – the exclusion of Ozil from his squads, and Merson believes Partey could have brought out the best in Ozil, with his ability opening up space for the ex-Real Madrid star to thrive.

Merson was quoted on the SUN: “It’s a shame that Ozil can’t play because I think [Partey] opens up the space for him.”

Meanwhile, Ex-Arsenal striker Lukas Podolski has slammed the club’s treatment of Mesut Ozil.

Ozil has not played for the Gunners since March and has been left out of boss Mikel Arteta’s Premier League and Europa League squads this season – despite being the club’s highest earner on £350,000-a-week.

There is talk that he will be looking to leave the club in the January window after being forced out of the club, and Podolski has opened up and suggested that the treatment of Ozil is not right from the club

Podolski told Bild: “I want to know the background, but I generally think with a player who is now in his sixth or seventh year with the club, to kick him completely out of the squad that’s not okay.

“You don’t do something like that, and I don’t know if something happened in the background or not but even if he’s done something, you don’t do it.

“I don’t know, of course, if there is something going on in the background or not.

“But even if there is something like that you don’t do it, mainly so you can keep his class on the pitch.”

Can we all agree that this is Ozil’s fault?
