Edu reveals why Luiz was signed, arteta responds to Partey, Defender opens door to move, arsenal delighted with Mari deal
Why Luiz was signed up, Arteta response to Partey rumours, Gabriel opens door to Prem move, Arsenal delighted with Mari deal in Arsenal news roundup…
Technical director Edu has opened up and admitted just why Arsenal decided to hand David Luiz a new contract.
Luiz has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons over the past few days as his performance against Manchester City just shows how unimpressive he can be in that Arsenal shirt.
Luiz’s contact was due to expire at the end of the season and an agreement was not in place for an extension, although the defender has admitted that he would like to stay at the club.
However, despite the calls from many out there not to hand Luiz a new contract at the club, despite the fact that he is no longer good enough to play for a club like Arsenal, the Gunners have taken up the decision to hand the Brazilian a deal until the end of next season.
And Edu has opened up an revealed just why the Arsenal decided to hand the defender a contract extension, hetold Arsenal’s official website: “I am really happy that we will have these players in our squad for the future.
They have been part of the long-term technical plan Mikel and I have developed. They bring the right balance to our squad.
“David is a really important player for us. He has played most of our matches this season and has been important for the team.
“His passing, his communication with the team on and off the pitch. He helps everyone.”
Arsenal Technical Director Edu has admitted his delight that Pablo Mari has signed a permanent deal with the Gunners.
Arteta knows that he will probably not get alot of money to spend in the transfer window and will look to sign up a couple of bargains to improve and strengthen key areas of the pitch, with the defence an area that needs to be improved.
Since joining from the Brazilian club in January, the 26-year-old has featured in just three games in all competitions, as he arrived at the club lacking match fitness, and his season has already been cut short after he suffered an ankle injury in the 3-0 defeat against Manchester City last week, leaving him out of action for up to five months.
However, that has not stopped the Arsenal wrapping up a four-year deal to sign Mari, and he has agreed a four-year deal to stay at the club beyond the transfer window.
And Edu has opened up an revealed just why the Arsenal decided to hand the defender a permanent move to the Emirates, telling the official club website: “With Pablo we’re all disappointed he got injured at Manchester City. Since Mikel arrived here he was asking for a central defender who was left-footed.
“We were really pleased with Pablo – his behaviour, the way he is training, his mentality and his quality.
“Unfortunately, he has that injury but of course we are really happy to keep him for the future.
Mikel Arteta has issued a cheeky response to speculation that Arsenal could complete a move for Thomas Partey this summer.
Arsenal know that they may need to prepare for next season as this year may be over, and that means that the club will need to get into that transfer kitty early in the summer and sign players that they believe, will make an impact in the side next season.
And the club have been linked with a move for Partey for many years now, and have once again showed a keen interest in a possible deal, as the 26-year-old has been in impressive form for the Spanish side and starred in their win over Liverpool in the Champions League earlier in the season
Recent reports on Corriere dello Sport claimed he is now “one step away” from a transfer move to the Emirates, as the reports suggests that Arsenal have left a £43.3 million offer on the table for the Spaniards to accept.
However, Ahead of the Gunners clash against Southampton, the Spaniard issued a cheeky response to the reports that Arsenal will try and secure a transfer deal for Partey in the summer.
He told the SUN: “At the moment, just to predict what is going to happen in the transfer window is impossible.
“You can see one or two clubs doing these sorts of deals, but the rest if really, really quiet.
“As I told, we have to assess the financial situation and whether we have a very narrow gap or a bigger gap to do any deals.
“So I think we are going to have to wait another four to six weeks to see what we are able to do.”
Rumoured Arsenal target Gabriel has opened the door to a Premier League move, by revealing his high ambitions.
It is no secret that Mikel Arteta is keen to improve that back-line during the summer transfer window and has been linked with a whole host of possible candidates that can come in and do a better job than the current defence at the Emirates.
The Gunners results may have picked up just before the coronavirus hit football, but they still need to back Mikel Arteta in the transfer window in order to sign a few defenders that will actually improve the side.
And Arsenal remain one of the favourites to land Lille’s young Brazilian centre-back, who has featured in the Champions League, playing twice against Chelsea in this season’s group stages.
Napoli have also been linked with the Brazilian, who has now admitted that a move to England or Italy holds great appeal to him.
Gabriel told L’Equipe: “It is gratifying because there are a lot of teams talking about me.
“I want to go as high as possible, I came to Europe for that. England or Italy? Both are good championships.
“I speak a lot to Luis Campos to see where it is best for me because he has a lot of experience. I also speak with my agents, with Gerard Lopez, with Jose Fonte.
“Gennaro Gattuso [Napoli’s manager] likes me a lot? I don’t know, we haven’t talked. On the internet, on social networks, there are a lot of things coming out. I do not know what is true. I see every day, ‘ah Gabriel goes there, then there’.
“But in fact, we don’t know yet where I’m going to go. Wherever I go it will be to play, to be at the top, at the highest level. And above all in a team that will allow me to go to the Selecao.
“This is my big goal, my dream. I hope that I will be there soon.”
