£25m Spurs raid, Gunners hold £75m talks, Arsenal to make Gomes offer, De Ligt destination claim

Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news and gossip

Reports have claimed Arsenal have held talks with Nicolas Pepe about a possible £75 million move away from Lille this summer.

With the Premier League season coming to a close and the Gunners attention focusing on next season, there has been a lot of transfer speculation in the media over the past few months on whom they will look to try and acquire in the coming transfer window.

And one name that has been mentioned about a possible move to the Premier League is that of Pepe, as the 23-year-old Pepe is among the most highly-rated forwards in Europe and his transfer value is estimated at more than 50 million euros (£57 million).

Pepe has scored 20 goals and created 11 assists in all competitions this season and has been tipped to become one of the most deadly strikers in the game, with Arsenal boss Unai Emery a big fan.

And amid all the transfer speculation surrounding his future with the club, Pepe’s agent, Samir Khiat, recently stated the 23-year-old has yet to decide which club he will join, but now looks certain to leave at the end of the season.

But now France Football claims that Arsenal are in contact over a summer bid as they seek to beat off the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, but the £75 million valuation that Lille have set for Pepe is set to put an end to any serious interest. (Read More)

Reports have claimed Arsenal boss Unai Emery could reignite his interest in on-loan Everton midfielder Andre Gomes this coming summer.

With Aaron Ramsey leaving the club at the end of the season and heading off to Seria A with giants Juventus, Arsenal are in need of some creativity and drive in the heart of their midfield to help fill the void of the Welshmans departure from the club.

Emery will have a limited transfer kitty to play around with and has been linked with a whole host of players over the course of the last few months, but one player that has caught the Spaniards attention once again is that of Gomes.

Emery was keen to try and acquire the services of Gomes last summer, but he missed out on a potential deal as the Gunners took too long to conclude any business and in the end the Barcelona ace decided to make the loan move to Premier League rivals Everton.

Gomes has impressed in the Everton midfield this season, proving quality on the ball whilst striking up a strong partnership with Idrissa Gueye in the heart of Marco Silva’s engine room.

And according to reports on the Daily Express website, a swoop for Gomes, whose move to Barcelona was facilitated by the Gunners’ director of football Raul Sanllehi, could be on the cards. (Read More)

Tottenham are interested in signing Freiburg defender Robin Koch as a potential replacement for Arsenal target Toby Alderweireld.

Alderweireld is regarded as one of the finest leaders in Europe right now and has been a big reason why Spurs have been so good under the guidance of Mauricio Pochettino over the past few seasons.

But despite many months of contract talks, Alderweireld has been unable to agree a new contract at Spurs, with many reports suggesting Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy is unwilling to break the clubs strict wage policy.

That has led to a lot of speculation in the media that the likes of Arsenal could make a move for Alderweireld in the summer window, as they seek to bolster their back-line issues.

Gunners boss Unai Emery spent over £70 million trying to improve the back-line last summer, but there are big issues at the back for Arsenal and that is the main reason why they failed to get back into a top four spot.

And the fact that there is a clause in the centre-back’s contract which means he could leave for £25million this summer, will mean that most clubs will try and secure a bargain transfer deal.

Now Spurs are planning for his possible exit according to BILD, who say Spurs have been impressed with Koch’s performances this season in the Bundesliga and could make a raid. (Read More)

Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt will go to England or Spain this summer, according to the club’s CEO Edwin van der Sar.

After helping Ajax reach the Champions League semi-final, beating the likes of Real Madrid and Juventus in the process, De Ligt has become one of the most sought after defenders in the game.

The 19-year old has shown great leadership, ability and is a physical specimen already, with the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United all hoping to try and get a deal done.

Gunners boss Unai Emery may have one of the best attacks in the game, but his back-line has some serious issues and he needs a top-class defender like De Ligt to come in and protect Bernd Leno.

United are also in the market for a new defender having failed to get back inside the top four because of the clubs defensive issues, and are reportedly ready to meet the £75 million Ajax currently value De Ligt at.

De Ligt’s team-mate Frenkie de Jong has already agreed to join Barcelona at the end of the season for an initial fee of £65m, and Van Der Sar has admitted that he will make the move to England or Spain.

“Frenkie de Jong is already a Barcelona footballer, while De Ligt I think will go to England or Spain,” Van der Sar told Sky in Italy before Ajax were eliminated by Tottenham from the Champions League.
