£26 million offer, Ozil needed, Sarri dig in Arsenal Saturday news and gossip

Here is the daily roundup of Arsenal news, gossip and transfer talk from icfootballnews.

Reports have claimed Arsenal have made a £26 million offer to sign Chelsea target Cengiz Under from Roma.

Under has been in impressive form for Roma this season, scoring six goals and providing six assists and his performances for the Italian giants have reportedly linked him with a move to the premier League despite the fact he has a contract until 2022.

Gunners boss Unai Emery already has an array of talent in his midfield, but with Aaron Ramsey on his way to Juventus, the Spanish boss will have a hole to fill when the Welshman finally leaves.

And according to reports, Arsenal submitted a £35 million offer to try and secure a deal for Under during the January window, but the midfielder wanted to stay in Seria A and a transfer deal could not be struck between the pair.

That led to recent speculation that Chelsea have now joined Arsenal Tottenham and Bayern Munich in the chase to land the exciting £21 year old this summer window, with reports claiming Chelsea have already made contact about a possible £35 million deal.

But in another twist for the midfielder, the Calciomercato website has claimed Arsenal have now stepped up their pursuit of Under and have gone ahead and submitted another £26 million offer of their own, but have been rejected as the Italians wants closer to £35 million.

Sokratis Papastathopoulos has claimed Arsenal need German Mesut Ozil in the side to enjoy the rest of the season.

Since the arrival of Unai Emery in the summer window, Ozil has become a bit-part player at the Emirates with the Spanish boss keen to play a style of football that does not fit the German’s way of playing.

Ozil was not offered any guarantees of a regular start by Emery following the victory in the Europa League against Bate, despite being praised for his performance, but retains the full backing of the Arsenal squad.

And Sokratis has come out and announced that Arsenal need the quality of Ozil in the side in their quest for some silverware and Champions League football.

“Mesut is a fantastic player and when he is fit he is one of the most important players of the team,” Sokratis said on the Arsenal website.

“Of course when something is not going good, everybody is there to criticise, but we have to see also what Mesut did in the last years for this team.

“All the team, all the players are behind him and we need a good Mesut to go [forward] because we know that he is very important for us.

“He was sick, he had some problems, but after he came back for training, it was the same situation as me: when I was injured and I came back, it is not that I have to play from the first game in the first 11.

“Now he is good. He did well [on Thursday] and I hope in the next games he will go [forward] like this.”

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri claims his side have been more successful than Arsenal this season because of the Carabao Cup.

Both Chelsea and Arsenal changed their managers in the summer transfer window and both have had indifferent seasons, but they both sit on 50 Premier League points this season and are also both trough to the Europa League last sixteen.

However, both are out of the FA Cup after some shocking results, but Sarri, who is under increasing pressure as boss of Chelsea, has claimed that his side that been more successful that their London rivals because they have reached the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

“It’s important to win the final,” Sarri said on the Sky Sports website.

“It’s very important for us, we have to find confidence. We are in the first final of the season and one point off the [Premier League] top four.

“Arsenal’s season is good but we’re doing a little bit better because we are in the final, and our season is a disaster? I am not able to understand.

“I want to remind you that in the last two seasons this team had 70 points, not 100. In the summer, we changed everything. It is not easy.”
