Pochettino announcement leaves Chelsea on hot alert for £70 million deal

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has admitted he is unsure whether Chelsea target Christian Eriksen will commit his future to the club.

The Denmark international has just 18 months remaining on his contract and has been linked with several of Europe’s biggest clubs, as reports emerge which claim he is considering his options after another productive season with Spurs.

Chelsea have been linked with a move in recent weeks after boss Maurizio Sarri admitted he was a fan of the creative star, with reports he is looking for an immediate replacement for Cesc Fabregas.

Now they have been given a huge boost after Pochettino admitted he is not sure whether Eriksen will sign a new deal to stay with the club.

He said on the Sky Sports website: “No news is good news. Who knows? I am not a person who suffers too much in this type of situation, because football is dynamic.

“Football is about interests that sometimes as a manager we cannot manage. It depends on many things. Different parties have interests.”

Could Chelsea poach Eriksen away from Tottenham?

Although Spurs are one of the best sides in the Premier League, they have a problem with how much they pay players and their wage cap means that a big club like Chelsea, could tempt their big players away.

Chelsea could offer Eriksen a massive deal that he simply cannot turn down, so Spurs need to be careful as they cannot lose one of their most influential players, especially to a rival.

However, Spurs are no fools when it comes to transfer deals and will look to sell Eriksen to a rival abroad or to a rival for almost double what his valuation in the market is.
