It has been claimed that Graham Potter has asked the Chelsea board about signing Brentford striker Ivan Toney

Chelsea have not had the start to the new season that many people had hoped for and Graham Potter knows that in order to keep his job – he needs to do something about it.

And there is still alot of speculation about who they could make for in the coming transfer window – as they are in dire need of adding a new striker to that front line.

The Blues have been one of the busiest sides this month, having already splashed the cash to sign David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, Joao Felix, Enzo Fernandez and Mykhaylo Mudryk as Graham Potter looks to strengthen his squad once again in the summer.

Chelsea would explore the market for a striker next, that much is absolutely certain, with Graham Potter reportedly a fan of Brentford’s Ivan Toney, according to journalist Simon Philipps (via Si & Talk Chelsea).

Phillips recently said to GiveMeSport“Ivan Toney is a player that Chelsea really like, and that’s from the new regime and the new recruitment team. He’s a name that they put forward.

“But obviously the situation with his gambling issues and what’s going to happen there, what kind of ban he’s going to get, Chelsea have to wait and see what happens. But Toney is a strong candidate for a striker in the summer.”

And they have been told that they should try and snap up Brentford hitman Toney

Toney hit 31 goals for Brentford when they won promotion out of the Championship in 2020-21 and has gone on to register 20 efforts in the top flight so far during his time in the Premier League

Reporter Iomie Stanley has suggested that there is potentially a £100 million frontman in west London.

Iomie Stanley told IcFootballnews.: “I’ll say this. Is there many better strikers in the Premier League right now than Toney?

“The proof is in the pudding, he’s promoted to the Premier League with a team that’s not fancied to stay up, he’s one of the top three goal scorers in the Premier League in a team that, again, is not a favourite to be top-10, top-12 in the Premier League.

‘Chelsea need an out and out striker – a man that can hold the ball up -win things in the air and give Potter something different in attack

“If you were Chelsea and you can go and write a cheque for £60million and but a striker that has all the potential to be one of the best.

“Toney is destined for one of the big clubs and if i was one of the Chelsea owners – he is definitely a player i would look into signing.’
