Premier League attacker ‘exactly the kind of player’ Arsenal should sign – Arteta told
Mario Melchiot reckons Aston Villa star Ollie Watkins is exactly the kind of player Arsenal need in attack.
It has been no secret in the media over the past few months that ARSENAL FC are in need of adding a striker to that attack that has the ability to score goals on a weekly basis.
Gabriel Jesus can be brilliant – but he is far too inconsistent to be the main man at the Emirates, while Eddie Nketiah is still learning his trade and is not yet ready to be the top guy at the club.
That has led to all sorts of speculation about who the Gunners could buy – they will not be signing anyone this transfer window – but that has not stopped Melchiot opening up and claiming that Watkins is the type of player that the club needs.
Watkins has helped totally transform this Aston Villa side to one of the best under Unai Emery and all the big Premier League clubs are keeping a very close eye on his.
He told Ladbrokes Fanzone: “Top teams might have overlooked Watkins in the past because there’s always this obsession with signing players who come in and hit the ground running immediately, whereas it’s taken Watkins a bit of time to really find his feet.
“But you might look at three quality Premier League sides in Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United and ask what all of them need right now, and the answer is the same: a striker.
“A goalscorer. And Ollie Watkins could be exactly that.”

ARSENAL FC have so many wonderful players that can make a real difference for Mikel Arteta – but Watkins is a player that pretty much does the same as what he has already at the club.
They need a powerful forward that the wingers can feed off.
