Premier League icon shocked with Liverpool’s very late £60M agreement

Gunners icon Paul Merson has given his verdict on Liverpool agreeing a deal to sign Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes, but the player would not move to Anfield until the summer and the pundit claims that the Reds need a defender now.

Despite the many reports that Jacquet was set to sign for Chelsea after the Blues made their moves to get a transfer deal done, Liverpool made a very late move on deadline day to secure the services of Jacquet.

It is believed that the defender is joining LIVERPOOL in a deal worth around £60 million, will sign a massive five-year contract at Anfield, but will not be making the move to the Premier League until the summer transfer window.

And after seeing Liverpool reach such an agreement, Pundit Merson has opened up and clamed that he shocked to see that the Reds didnt bring the young star to Anfield during this January window: “I found it extraordinary that [Jacquet] is coming in the summer,” Merson said on Sky Sports News.

“They [Liverpool] need a centre-half now to get into the top-four or top-five.

“It surprises me. It’s a good signing – as a Chelsea fan I’m shocked he hasn’t come to Chelsea, but I’m glad [Josh] Acheampong is now staying.

“I’m majorly shocked. I don’t know why for the life of me he’s staying in France until the start of next season.

“With that kind of money, you want him now!”

Jacquet is really enjoying himself at Rennes, he is playing every week and developing very nicely, maybe LIVERPOOL believed that he was not quite ready to make the move at this stage of the season.

But they do have defensive issues at the back right now and Jacquet would help solve this problems, so yes, many Liverpool fans will be shocked to see that the defender is not coming to Anfield this January.
