President announces Maurizio Sarri wants to sign £43 million Arsenal and Man United target Barella
Fresh reports have again claimed that Maurizio Sarri is keen to bring Cagliari star Nicolo Barella to the club during the next transfer window.
Former midfielder Cesc Fabregas finally ended months of speculation by deciding to leave the club during the January transfer window and link-up with former Arsenal team-mate Thierry Henry at Monaco., as the 31-year old Spaniard was not happy with the contract offer that Chelsea were prepared to offer.
And that left Sarri with a hole in his midfield that he was unable to fill during the final few moments of the transfer window, with Barella just one of a number of possible replacements the Italian wanted to replace Fabregas after he left the club.
But with the possibility of a transfer ban for the next few windows, Sarri is hoping to conclude a few deals in the summer in hope of having a squad that is able to challenge for more than just a top four spot and a Europa league title.
And according to reports on the Corriere dello Sport, the Italian club’s president Tommaso Giulini has revealed that Sarri is interested in a deal to sign the Arsenal and Manchester United target.
‘Barella was never close to a January exit,’ Giulini told the Corriere dello Sport.
‘I cannot deny that there was concrete interest from Napoli in January. Maurizio Sarri also wanted him at Chelsea.
‘As for Inter, that was just a chat, nothing more.’
Will Sarri get the Fabregas replacement he wants?
So Far Sarri has been backed in the transfer market and will get the players he wants, so Chelsea now know they need to complete a deal for a midfielder if they want to keep the Italian a happy man.
The Blues have other areas of the pitch that need to be worked on and should focus on that as they already have a number of top class midfielders.
But only time will tell if Sarri gets the signings that he wants.
