Coach opens up and announces why £57 million star Pulisic has signed for Chelsea and Manchester United
A former coach of Christian Pulisic has revealed just why the American rejected Manchester United to sign for Chelsea.
Pulisic ended month of transfer speculation last January when he decided to sign for Chelsea in a deal that was worth more than £57 million, but he would only arrive at the club this summer transfer window.
Many believe that he has been signed by the club as the long-term, not immediate, replacement for Hazard, who also ended months of speculation by agreeing a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid in a deal that could cost the Spaniard well in excess of £100 million.
But When he was just seven years old, Pulisic spent a spell with non-League Brackley Town but he remained close with youth coach Robin Walker and invited him to Germany before he concluded a move to Chelsea, andd Walker has now revealed that Pulisic was not interested in a move to United because of Jose Mourinho not being willing to give young players opportunities.
’m a Chelsea fan, I grew up in London supporting them,’ Walker told The Telegraph.
‘When I was in Dortmund last year, I told him that he had to come. ‘He wouldn’t go to Manchester United because of Jose Mourinho. His father couldn’t stand Mourinho, because he didn’t promote young players.
‘It was at that point I asked: “What about London? That’s where it’s at.” I was trying to sell the city.
‘His agent agreed, saying: ‘When you make these decisions, it’s all about investment and property.’ I was delighted that he did sign.’
Pulisic is a brilliantly gifted young man and United missed out on capturing him, especially for that £57 million bargain. But a move to Chelsea may be the right one for the lad as competition for places at United on the wings is a lot harder with the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford.
Chelsea signing Pulisic is a massive statement and whether or not the American regrets not signing for United, no one will know, but right now no one really cares why he rejected United, the move has already happened.
