Hongstein makes huge Hazard claim after Chelsea seal superstar Bundesliga deal for Pulisic
Chelsea have not signed Christian Pulisic as a “direct replacement” for Eden Hazard, according to Raphael Honigstein.
After months of speculation, Chelsea finally beat off the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal to seal a £57 million deal for the highly-rated American, who is reportedly the immediete replacement for star man Hazard.
It is no secret that Real Madrid are keen to acquire the services of Hazard at the end of the season and all indications suggest that the Belgian is hoping to secure a move, as he believes that a move to La Liga will give him a better chance of fulfilling his dreams.
However, Jornalist Honigstein has claimed that Pulisic is not a signing to cover the possible loss of Hazard next summer, telling the TalkSport podcast: “I’m not sure what this means for Hazard but he is not, at least not in my mind, a direct replacement.
“He can play in the same positions of course but he is not going to add those goals necessarily.
“He will provide plenty of assists and keep the ball, but I don’t see him filling the role that Hazard has – basically becoming both Chelsea’s playmaker and major goalscorer in the absence of a more prolific centre forward. I think we have to look at this move in isolation.”
Can the Pulisic deal help keep Hazard?
Hazard wants to see big names arrive at the club that will help Chelsea get back into the habit of challenging for the Premier League and Champions League titles, and although Pulisic is not classed as one of the best players in football, he is a real superstar over in Germany.
The lad is quality and having him on one wing and Hazard on another would be devestating.
