Lamps told you’d want him in your dressing room.’ as £70 million midfielder tipped to thrive at big club like Chelsea
Stuart Pearce has backed Declan Rice’s ability to thrive at a bigger club amid transfer interest from Chelsea.
Chelsea may have a very exciting attack that can create and score goals on a regular basis, but that back-line and stopper area of the pitch looks very dodgy and cost Chelsea alot of points in the Premier League.
Their defensive issues were the main reason why they failed to beat Arsenal in the FA Cup and then got smashed by Bayern Munich in the Champions League this week, and now that the transfer window is opened up, Lampard has admitted that he is keen to improve the defensive side of the squad.
West Ham midfielder Declan Rice is a player that has been heavily linked with a move to the Bridge, especially as he is eager to make that step up in the game and avoid another relegation battle next season with the Hammers.
And amid all the speculation, Pearce has opened up and claimed that Rice has the ability to thrive at a big club: ‘He’s enjoying his football in the centre of midfield at the moment,’ Pearce told talkSPORT.
‘He’s improving, I don’t think you’re signing the complete article if anyone gets Declan rice, even if he stays at West Ham.
‘Year on year I expect to see improvement from him.’
When asked if he could handle the pressures of playing for a bigger club, Pearce said: ‘Yeah I think so. If you’re asking me is he a good professional and a very grounded kid? Yes he is, no doubt about that.
‘He reminded me a little bit of a very young Joe Hart when I first met Declan.
‘A good kid and he’s one of those you’d want him in your dressing room.’
Rice is ready for Chelsea, but will they pay the big money to complete a deal?
