Chelsea told to sign creative midfielder, Hammers know Rice is leaving, Lamps told target free to leave Inter, Lamps addresses Giroud rumours and stunning Rodgers claim made
Rice transfer claim made, Chelsea urged to sign midfielder, Eriksen free to leave and Rodgers tipped to be next boss in Chelsea roundup….
Jamie Carragher believes Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers could be headed for the Chelsea job, should Frank Lampard ever get the sack.
Lampard was brought to the club last season and since his move back to the club, he has brought a sense of optimism and excitement, with his Champions League and FA Cup final run being hailed as a great season for the Bleus last year.
But a sluggish start to this season had many people wondering if he was the right man for the job, which prompted the boss to change a few things, and now his Chelsea side are right in there for that Premier League title.
Rodgers has excelled at Leicester City, guiding the club to a fifth place finish last term and it is widely believed that the former Liverpool boss will be headed by one of the big clubs in the coming seasons, and Carragher believes he could make the ideal Chelsea boss one day.
“Brendan Rodgers is the best British coach out there, no doubt,” he said on Sky Sports
“Maybe you could argue that the Liverpool job came too early but I think he did a good job, coming closer than any manager to winning the League in 30 years.
“He’s a fantastic coach, he’s done a great job at Leicester and I think his next job could be a Chelsea or an Arsenal.
“Maybe it would be difficult to go back to Liverpool or to coach Manchester United, given the Liverpool connection, but I think he’ll be up for the top jobs in this country, maybe England too.”
West Ham know that Chelsea target Declan Rice will leave the club Patrice Evra has claimed.
Rice has developed into one of the very best holding midfielders in the game over at the Hammers, but his name has been in the headlines alot over the past few months about where he will end up after West Ham.
Chelsea are the firm favourites to try and get a transfer deal done, as constant reports have claimed that Frank Lampard sees Rice as the ideal man to come in and take-over from Ngolo Kante, who is being linked with a move away from the club on a weekly basis.
Now, amid all the speculation, The French defender was a pundit on Sky Sport watching West Ham’s 1-0 win over Sheffield United on Sunday – a game in which Rice was named ahead of Noble as skipper for the Irons, and he has claimed that the Hammers already know that they are going to lose Rice.
“Moyes has given him the captaincy, so for me, it symbols the future of West Ham. It’s not easy to put Mark Noble on the bench,” Evra explained.
“They know they are going to lose him, because many big clubs are interested in Declan, but right now, he’s the man of West Ham. I’m not surprised.
“I knew this player would never allow his head to get bigger because he’s so focused and so humble, and you can see him smiling – he’s happy, what a joy. I’m very pleased for him.”
Chelsea target Christian Eriksen is free to leave Inter in January, club chief executive officer Beppe Marotta has confirmed.
After establishing himself as one of the most creative players in the Premier League with Tottenham, Eriksen decided that he had had enough at Spurs and believed that he was ready to make a move to a bigger club like Inter.
However, since his move to Italian football, it has not worked out like he would have hoped with Inter and he has been constantly linked with a return back to the Premier League, with Chelsea one of the favourites to get a transfer deal all wrapped up.
Now Marotta says Nerazzurri are ready to listen to offers for the former Tottenham man: “Yesterday, Conte answered in a very comprehensive way,” Marotta told DAZN, with the head coach having already been asked about Eriksen’s long-term future.
“I clearly add that we will not hold a footballer back if they ask to be transferred. We will have to make the right evaluations.
“Conte is using [Eriksen] with respect for the player and the club. At the moment no offers have arrived, but at the appropriate time we will try to make the right decisions.”
Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink has urged Chelsea to add another creative midfielder to the squad.
Chelsea have plugged defensive leaks of late, with Edouard Mendy impressing as their new No.1, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell both coming in and adding some much needed quality to that back-line that they have.
Goals are never going to be a problem with the likes of Timo Werner, Tammy Abrahmam, Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Kai Havertz around, as many are not tipping this Chelsea squad to mount a serious challenge for that Premier League title.
But Hasselbaink believes greater depth could also be added in that department, and ahead of the January transfer window, he has urged the club to add another creative midfielder to the squad, The Dutchman was quoted on the Daily Mirror: “I would also like to see another creative midfielder.
“I like Mason Mount, but maybe somebody to play alongside him.
“Havertz is there, I know, but you want healthy, quality competition in that area. I don’t think Chelsea are far off at all.”
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has addressed the rumours linking Olivier Giroud with a January move away from the club.
Giroud shocked many people in the Premier League during the summer transfer window when he agreed to stay at the club for another season, despite the fact Chelsea had just signed Timo Werner.
That has meant that Werner and Tammy Abraham are ahead of the Frenchman in the pecking order at the Bridge, and that has led to the striker admitting that he may have to seek a move away from the club in the next transfer window.
Lampard is open to sitting down with Giroud to discuss his current position in the squad, and still considers him to be a vital part of his plans going forward despite his lack of minutes over the past few weeks.
The 42-year-old told a press conference ahead of a Champions League meeting with Rennes on Tuesday: “I do have plans to have Oli, he’s very important in our squad. He was a big member of our squad last year and I think he played a lot of games and made a lot of starts for us last year.
“When you look at our games, he made a lot of league starts and I think he played a relative amount. He will always want to play more.
“He is a huge member of the squad for me and I know he will be important for us going forward. I want Oli to stay here because he will play and I have a good relationship with Oli.
“If he ever felt that was going to go a different way then I am happy to have that conversation with him but I want him to stay here and we will be very open both ways if that ever changed, but at the minute, he is very important to me.”
