Chelsea urged to sign Terry replacement, Lampard on Jorginho – Havertz rumours, Chelsea agree stopper deal, Pulisic excited and Gerson responds to Chelsea links
Rice ticks all the boxes, Lampard on Havertz-Jorginho, Chelsea agree Cakir deal, Pulisic excited, Gerson on rumours in Chelsea roundup..
Matthew Upson believes Chelsea transfer target Declan Rice ‘ticks the boxes’ to be a potential long-term replacement for John Terry.
It is no secret that Chelsea have a great attack that has the ability to score on a regular basis, and with the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, that attack will only improve next season.
However, there are some questions at the back, And one name that has been linked with a big move to Chelsea is that of Rice, who has become one of the most talked about players in the Premier League since he moved from the back-line into Midfield.
Now, amid all the speculation, Upson believes Rice ‘ticks the boxes’ to be a potential long-term replacement for John Terry
Speaking to the Athletic about the 21-year-old’s potential, the former England and West Ham star said: ‘I know Declan very well, it is why he has done so well and established himself at West Ham so quickly. He has that personality you need.
‘The characteristics we talk about regarding John Terry — his instincts, communication, leadership — that is Declan Rice. He ticks the boxes.
‘I worked a lot with Declan when I was with West Ham Under-23s. He is a fantastic communicator, he is very mature for his age, has leadership mentality and personality.
‘The issue is: he hasn’t played a lot at centre-back in the Premier League. He has shown how good a defensive midfielder he is, he is one of the best around at the moment and potentially will be the best.
‘But I worked with him when he was playing as a centre-back. He is capable of playing in that position. It is difficult to know what impact he’d make at Chelsea because it depends on so many things — who does he play with?
‘Would the team be strong enough when he first goes back to playing at centre-half as a young player still? He is just 21. But he is an absolutely brilliant lad.’
Chelsea have reportedly made their move for Trabzonspor goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir, as a possible replacement for Kepa.
Chelsea have already been busy before the transfer window has even opened up, nailing down a number of players to new contracts and landing two very exciting top-class players that will make an impression on the side.
But there is some bad news, Lampard needs to delve into that transfer kitty in the coming months and add a top-class defender and a new stopper to the side, especially as Kepa has not been good enough this season, and is seemingly not getting better.
Lampard had been happy with Kepa Arrizabalaga at the start of the season until his inconsistency began to lose Chelsea points in the race for the top four, and since the restart Kepa’s vulnerability from set-pieces has made the Blues pay, with Lampard set on signing a new goalkeeper this summer.
And According to Turkish outlet Haber 365, Chelsea have struck an agreement with Trabzonspor to sign Cakir.
The report states that the clubs have agreed a fee of €33m (£29.5m), who will move to west London this summer.
Gerson has no interest in leaving Flamengo despite reported interest from Premier League giants Chelsea.
Chelsea have been a side over the past few weeks that have been looking to get their transfer business done very early, so new players can get settled into their new life in the Premier League.
And despite some big-time names being linked with the club, there has been some speculation in the media suggesting that Gerson could be a man that could make the move to Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £30 million.
After an unsuccessful stint at Roma, Fluminense youth product Gerson returned to Brazil after an €11.8million (£11m/$13m) deal was agreed with Flamengo in July 2019, and since then, The 23-year-old has won the Campeonato Brasileiro, Copa Libertadores, Supercopa do Brasil and the Recopa Sudamericana, while the Campeonato Carioca could be secured next week.
Chelsea have been keeping a very close eye on the development of the winger, especially with all the transfer talk that Willian is leaving the club, but it seems that they actually may not get the chance to sign the man, after he insisted he is happy at Flamengo.
“After a year with Flamengo, I can promise that I never spoke with another club. My focus is totally on Flamengo,” he told Globo Esporte.
“I feel at home, I am happy, I am wanted and I am at a club that is on the level of European sides.
“We can’t shut doors, football shows this, but today I am very happy and fulfilled to be in the club of my heart.
“I rediscovered myself here and I want to win yet more trophies in this shirt.”
Frank Lampard addressed transfer speculation surrounding Bayer Leverkusen star Kai Havertz and Chelsea midfielder Jorginho.
Lampard knows that he needs to keep on improving his side in the summer if he wants to close that gap on the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City to challenge for that Premier League title.
We all know that Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech have both been brought in to help improve the Chelsea attack, but Lampard is still reportedly keen to add the exciting Havertz to the side in the transfer window.
With 37-goals in the last few seasons and a whole host of big clubs circling for a potential deal, Havertz is one of the brightest talents in the game and a player that many Chelsea fans would like to see arrive for £80 million in the summer.
Lampard was asked about such speculation ahead of Saturday’s Premier League fixture at Sheffield United, but kept his cards close to his chest.
“Unfortunately it’s another answer from me, that that is not something I want to broach at this moment in time,” Lampard said on the Metro.
“My focus is completely on the game. So, I don’t want to give you any ifs, buts or maybes for the summer, my focus has to be on the here and now.”
Closer to home, Italy international Jorginho once again finds himself being linked with an exit from Stamford Bridge, with reports suggesting that he is keen to make that move back to Italy and link-up with former boss Maurizio Sarri.
But Lampard again refused to comment on his future: “Again, I keep getting asked about next season,” he added
“To be honest, it is irrelevant what happens next season.
“These final few games will define how we look at this season and look forward to next.”
Christian Pulisic insists he is ‘excited’ to play with new Chelsea signings Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech
Despite the fact that football is now back up and running and Chelsea are closing in on that place in the Champions League next season, the coronavirus is still dominating the world, and people still need to stay safe.
But the good news for Chelsea fans is that they get to see the arrivals of both Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech, who are regarded as two of the finest players in Europe, and two signings that will add more goals and creativity to the side.
And one player that is excited about the signings of the duo this summer if Pulisic, who has opened up and admitted that he is excited about the idea of playing with Werner and Ziyech next season.
He told Sky Sports: ‘I’m excited to work with them. ‘It’s fun to play with good players, it’s easy to play with them and those are two guys we know that are really talented guys so I’m really looking forward to it.
‘We can have a really strong team next season. I think there’s still work that needs to be done [to catch Liverpool and Man City].
‘You can see this year that those two, especially Liverpool, have been just so consistent and dominant and that’s right where we want to be.
‘We want to continue to be that consistent team week in week out, in tough games, midweek games. We want to be ready and be up for the challenge always.
‘And that’s what it’s going to take. We still have our work to do but that’s where we want to be.
‘We want to continue to win trophies, that’s always a goal. We want to continue to be a strong team, contending for that Premier League title.’
Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech is a world class attack that will surely cause some Premier League clubs big issues? So lets hope that they can all gel together next season, as it would be worrying if they cant.
