Arsenal announce first deal of January – defender exited after completing move

Josh Robinson has opened up and admitted just how delighted he is after ARSENAL made the decision to allow him to make the loan move to Wigan until the end of the current season.

Despite not making a senior appearance for the Gunners, Robinson was named among the substitutes in four of their six Champions League matches this season. The Hale End academy graduate, who can operate in the centre or on the right of defence, has also featured in three EFL Trophy matches this term, even finding the net against Leyton Orient.

Having been encouraged by the Club’s track record of developing young players, Robinson believes that the Brick Community Stadium is the perfect place for him to now begin the next chapter of his exciting career.

“I am very excited to start my journey here,” Robinson told Latics TV.

“It’s a very big Football Club, and I am looking forward to seeing what the season holds.

“They were interested in me and when you see a big Club like Wigan, you cannot turn that opportunity down.

“He (Shaun Maloney) told me that we play a similar football to what I’ve been used to. The Manager is a good guy and played a big part (in my decision to come here)

“I’ve been at Arsenal for a long time, and coming out of the Academy into a first-team environment is a big step but I feel like I am ready to take it.

“It’s a big decision – but I thought why not take the leap of faith and hopefully everything will go well.

“I am very excited to get going. I just want to hit the ground running, and hopefully do well for the Football Club.”
