Boss sends transfer message to Arsenal regarding possible signing of £35M man

Brendan Rodgers insists he has not given up hope of Arsenal target Youri Tielemans signing a new contract at Leicester

Arsenal will look to delve into the transfer kitty during the January transfer window and add a few more players to the squad that will add depth to the side – and Tielemans is a player that Arsenal have been linked with.

He was heavily tipped to leave Leicester but stayed – but with the Belgian not any closer to agreeing a new contract – Arsenal are one of the favourites to try and get a transfer deal done

But Rodgers believes there is still a chance Tielemans stays at the King Power Stadium.

“In terms of fitness, he’s been OK,” Rodgers said. “He has been a fantastic professional for us, even though he is in the situation with his contract.

“He’s never wavered from his mentality and what he gives to the team. He provides the team with know-how in the game; he is wonderful to work with.

“I’d love him to sign another deal and continue his journey at Leicester, but we’ll see.”

Journalist Ben Jacobs has recently claimed he is aware that the FA Cup winner wants to head to the capital and the Gunners’ interest has not deteriorated.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT: “It’s an intriguing one because they’ve put in a lot of work for Tielemans.

“They know that Tielemans wants Arsenal, so this is not the type of transfer where Arsenal have to worry about player buying. If they move for Tielemans, then Tielemans will join Arsenal.

“But it’s all about what Arsenal want, what’s right for their chemistry and dynamic mid-season, if we’re talking about January.

“Their interest has never gone away. It’s one to watch because he’s in good form now for Leicester and he’s a goalscorer.”
