James offered conformed, Torreira stunner, Dacoure wanted, Petit urges Rodriguez move in Arsenal news and gossip
Here is a roundup of the latest Arsenal news, gossip and transfer speculation from icfootballnews.
Gunners legend Paul Merson has claimed Lucas Torreira is not good enough and Arsenal should make a move to Watford star Addoulaye Dacoure.
Arsenal splased out £22 million in the summer to secure a deal for Torreira after boss Unai Emery told the hieraechy that he wanted the former Sampdoria man to be that missing link in midfield.
And so far he has made an impression on many Arsenal fans with his performances, but Merson has announced that he is not a fan and Arsenal should make a move to try and sign Dacoure.
Dacoure has started the new season just how he left last season, in great form. And his performances over the past twelve months have linked him with moves to PSG, Arsenal, Liverpool abd Chelsea, with many believing that he has the ability to play for a top European side.
Merson told Sky Sports: “Everyone was raving about Lucas Torreira, but he’s not that good. I said this a few months ago and everyone kicked up a stink.
“He only looks good as he’s what Arsenal have needed for a long time, someone to run around and put their foot in.
“But, if you put him up for sale tomorrow then none of the top five clubs in the Premier League would be interested.
They (Arsenal) should sign Abdoulaye Doucoure at Watford – he’d walk into the team. I’d take him tomorrow morning.
“He’s a much better player than Torreira and he scores goals. He’s one of the most under-rated players in the Premier League – he could play for any of the top six.
“It seems no-one pays attention to him because he plays for Watford and fans will say, ‘Why are we buying him, he’s at Watford?’ – but he’s a proper player.”
Former Arsenal star Emmanuel Petit has urged Unai Emery to sign on-loan Bayern Munich star James Rodriguez.
With news that Aaron Ramsey will be leaving the club at the end of the season to sign for Italian Champions Juventus, Emery has been eyeing up an ambitious move to try and secure a deal for Rodriguez after reports emerged that he could leave Bayern.
Reports have also suggested that Bayern Munich are unlikely to take up their €42 million (£36.8m) option to permanently sign him from Real Madrid at the end of the season, and would be prepared to let him leave this month if an adeqaute replacement is lined up.
And Petit has claimed James would be a great addition to the Arsenal side, telling the Daily Mirror website: ‘I have known James Rodriguez from when he played for Monaco and I think he is a very good attacking midfielder.
‘I believe he is a proper number ten, I like him in the middle of the park controlling the game.
‘He has this quality – it’s a mix of [Cesc] Fabregas and Isco – and I think he would be a very good signing for Arsenal.
‘If I had to chose between them [Rodriguez and Suarez] – knowing the situation with Ramsey – Arsenal definitely need an attacking midfielder and need to get a player who has the personality to direct a game and not hide all the time.
‘I think James Rodriguez is one of them.’
James Rodriguez father has admitted the Bayern Munich star has offers from the likes of Arsenal but wants to stay put.
Reports emerged at the start of the January transfer window that Gunners boss Unai Emery was desperate to find a suitable replacement for the departing Aaron Ramsey, who has agreed a move to Italian giants Juventus after failing to agree a new contract at the club.
And that led to speculation that Emery was ready to tell Arsenal that he wants to secure a move for James, who has not had the best of seasons over at Bayern, with many reports suggesting the Germans do no longer want him in the squad.
But amid the speculation, the Colombian’s father Juan Carlos Restrepo has claimed that his son wants to stay at Bayern this month, despite having offers from England.
‘He is comfortable in Munich,’ said Restrepo.
‘I don’t have news about it, but there may be offers based on those rumours coming from England.
‘He is calm and he feels that he’s at a good level again and that he’s physically strong.
‘That gives us a perspective that he is happy, motivated and working well, as he is eager to achieve new success.’
