Boss OFFICIALLY confirms stars £106M Chelsea transfer decision
Benfica head coach Roger Schmidt has claimed that Chelsea will not be signing Enzo Fernandez this transfer window.
Fernandez has become the talk of the transfer window as there has constantly been rumours that Chelsea were close to agreeing a mammoth £106 million deal to bring him to Stamford Bridge.
But that never happened and now Chelsea’s ongoing midfield transfer saga must reach a conclusion soon with just seven days left of the January transfer window.
Interest could yet be reignited in Fernandez with Fabrizio Romano writing the latest on the Argentina international in his CaughtOffside column: “At the moment, what I’m told is that Benfica are still in the same position: €120m (£106m) or nothing. Let’s see if Chelsea will try again, there are no direct negotiations yet.”
Now Roger Schmidt has opened up and admitted that he does not expect to see Fernandez depart the club this month and he is happy to see out the season at the Estadio da Luz.
Speaking at a press conference today ahead of Thursday’s league match against Pacos Ferreira, Schmidt confirmed the player is not expected to leave. Asked if he was confident of Fernandez staying, Schmidt said: ‘Yes. When you see Enzo playing for Benfica you see a very happy player, in great shape.
‘He’s not thinking about anything else. I’m not expecting to lose any of our regulars, and that’s why I see very focused players and I hope this stays that way’.

All this speculation surrounding a man that is not worth that £106 million is crazy – it is probably a good thing that Chelsea will not sign the lad this month as it will give them time to make sure he is right for the club.
Fernandez will leave Benfica – but no club should pay £106 million that is for sure.
