Italian confirms Arsenal interest in signing brilliant £53 million star
Fabrizio Romano has seemingly confirmed Arsenal’s interest in signing Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams.
Over the past 12 months there has been alot of excitement around the quality of Williams after his stunning season with Bilbao fully established him as one of the best wingers in La Liga.
But it has been his impressive performances at the Euros 2024 that have really caught the eye and Athletic Bilbao will fight hard to keep their star winger, who has also been mentioned in connection with Barcelona and Liverpool.
Speaking to Give Me Sport, he claimed that Arsenal are reluctant to trigger Williams’ release clause: “Premier League clubs are still there because Chelsea still appreciate Nico Williams, but they don’t want to pay crazy money in terms of salary commission, and obviously the release clause in one solution. So this is one topic.
“Arsenal still appreciate Nico Williams, but they also don’t want to pay in that kind of structure. They wanted something different in terms of money, but the appreciation of ARSENAL and especially of Mikel Arteta for Nico Williams is real.
“Liverpool also like the player, but Liverpool never started any concrete contact to advance so far.”

Williams will have his pick of clubs if he does decide to leave Bilbao over the next few weeks – there are some big clubs interested in a deal for the winger – but we dont expect him to leave the Spanish League.
If he does decide to leave Bilbao – he will probably make the move to Barcelona – where he could thrive and become one of the best wingers in the game.
It will be interesting to see where he ends up – but it probably wont be the Premier League that is the next move for the lad.
